Shakila Ghasemi Held for Over 100 Days in Kerman Prison
It was learned on 13 May 2026, that Ms. Shakila Ghasemi, a Baha’i detained in Kerman prison, has been kept in detention for more than 103 days without formal charges.
Ms. Ghasemi was arrested on 2 February 2026, by security agents at her home in Kerman. Prior to her arrest, authorities searched the family residence and confiscated electronic devices belonging to her and other family members.
She was subsequently held for approximately 47 days in a detention facility affiliated with the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), where she underwent repeated interrogations. She was later transferred to solitary confinement in a quarantine ward in Kerman Prison.
Authorities have rejected requests for her release on bail and informed her that she would remain in custody until her court hearing. Although the allegations against her have been communicated to her during interrogations, no formal charges have been publicly announced. Ms. Ghasemi has denied all of the accusations made against her.
The prolonged isolation and pressure of detention have caused serious deterioration in her mental and physical condition. She has suffered repeated nervous breakdowns and has been transferred multiple times from the prison quarantine ward to the prison infirmary, where she remains under medical care. She had no known history of neurological or psychological illness prior to her arrest.
As of the time of writing, no official statement has been issued regarding the reasons for her detention, the nature of any charges against her or the legal status of her case.

“We” evacuated about 100,000 Afghans in 2021.
They’re now being told to go back and apply for their green card from Afghanistan?
I was the primary care physician to many who landed in Arizona. I am left speechless by the cruelty of this decision if true.
Many of these families worked with us while in Afghanistan and there is a reason they were evacuated!
@Dr_Done_@WSJ I disagree
Many are very well qualified for their scope of practice. PAs and NP certainly have a place in our healthcare system as physician extenders and with clarity around scope of work.
@bryanrbeal And NPs and PAs are often paid less. In an ideal world they are part of the care team managing less complex cases, assisting with EMR in basket, and being an extension of the physician they work with, but unfortunately, in many settings it does not work this way.

That process worked.
That process saved my life.

We need influential medical experts to be active here on X. We can help by providing good medical information and updates for patients and colleagues. We can network. We can counter misinformation. Clarify complex questions. Share accomplishments and publications. And more. I learn every day.
Although X has is not the same as the amazing platform Twitter used to be, it’s still the Number one social media platform for medicine. I’m happy to be here.

Walking 7,000+ steps/day was associated with a 31% lower risk of depression.
Each additional 1,000 steps/day was linked with another 9% lower risk.
Walk daily. Your body and mind both depend on it.

Note: "no major medical society recommends whole-body MRI screening in the general population because it is unproven, and the harms likely outweigh the benefits."

The Bahá'í community has been part of Egyptian society since 1863. For over a century, Egyptian Bahá'ís have contributed to their country across the arts, law, healthcare, education, media, banking, and engineering.
Yet today, they face systematic, state-sponsored persecution. Their marriages cannot be legally registered. Their children are denied birth certificates, immunisations, and school enrolment. A single dash on their ID cards—placed in the religion field because "Bahá'í" is not a permitted option—marks them for discrimination in employment and education. There is only one cemetery for the entire Bahá'í community in the country, and it is full, meaning Bahá’í families are resorting to the indignity of burying loved ones upright in any free patch of ground. Security agents surveil, summon, and interrogate Bahá'ís on a routine basis, and pressure their friends and neighbours to cut ties with them.
