@EddieComeaux Police officers instead of protecting students are only promoting violence! We cannot allow students to walk around their campuses in fear. There needs to instead be more focus on helping support students by including more social workers & school psychs at schools #racialjustice
@mariamedinat@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree & Its important that ALL faculty works to support athletes academically. Athletes shouldn't have to be stopped from a major because it may interfere with sports. Just like any other student they should be able to explore their interests #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
Athletes may often be told to focus on sports rather than academics. They may also be told to take easier classes. There needs to be improvement in the advising given to these athletes so that they can better prepare for life after college #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@Shalae1017 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree! Athletes have to dedicate many hours into their sport just like if they had a job. Institutions make plenty of revenue from them & It's unfair that they cannot get fairly compensated from institutions who use their image to make money #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
It's unfair that colleges get to use athletes images & profit off of them. Athletes deserve a fair compensation if their names are used. Many lawsuits against the NCAA have indicated a fight for fair compensation but the NCAA seems to always win #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@Plantbabezz @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely I completely agree with you! The NCAA does not make the transfer rules fair across all student athletes. They continue to demonstrate that their priority is how they profit off of the athletes and revenue rather than prioritizing athletes #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The amount of transfer rules for athletes are unfair. I believe if an athlete is not happy at their institution like any other student they should have the right to transfer. It again shows that the NCAA is not prioritizing athletes well-being #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@Vi_Agui@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree!concussions should not be treated so lightly. This only shows how colleges don't prioritize athletes health. There needs to be stricter rules that put the athletes health first. Coaches and players also need to be aware of all signs #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The NCAA put responsibility on institutions to come up with their own concussion management plan. The problem here is what if institutions are not prioritizing their athletes health? It is very concerning that so many concussions go unreported #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@ymart025 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely I agree! it's unfair that women don't receive the same amount of scholarships and opportunities. Also, sports like football are male dominated, leaving men with more scholarship opportunities. It just seems unfair overall for women #ucr15@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
It is upsetting to hear that each year male athletes are receiving millions more than female athletes in scholarships. Title IX is supposed to protect from any gender inequality yet women are still facing it in college sports. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@BadajozSelena@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree! having a 1 year renewable scholarship may be stressful for athletes. It may be very stressful for them not knowing if the coach will renew their scholarship. It's unfair that the coaches get complete control over this @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely#Ucr150
The NLI includes having a 1 year renewable scholarship which I think may lead athletes to incredible stress. This may have them focus more on their sport than academics. If they had a 4 year renewable scholarship it may help reduce the stress #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@leonardo_mar07 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I completely agree with you, I think it's very unfair that regardless of the hard work and revenue these athletes bring to their colleges they cannot be compensated. The NCAA and the coaches just seem to have all the control over these athletes. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
It is shocking that coaches have the control of not renewing athletes scholarship at the end of year regardless of their GPA. It is unfair that athletes are expected to play as a hobby when they have to deal with stress from sports and class #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@victorialeilani@helloJuJudy I completely agree with you. I think often many faculty members forget that they are not only athletes but they are students too. Their well-being should be priority. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
Considering the amount of dedication athletes put into their sport I can agree with the criticism that they are not being well compensated. The NCAA benefits from athletes in so many ways yet the do not compensate them fairly #UCR150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely@helloJuJudy
@EddieComeaux Hearing these stories makes me realize that the NCAA does not prioritize athletes mental health. No one should ever have to go through these experiences. Mental health should be priority for all athletes, because like mentioned they're more than just a number #AthletesRights
@HayleyIsobe@helloJuJudy I completely agree with you! I think its important that athletes be given resources and support when exploring careers. Considering their tight schedules they are not able to focus on this so it is very important that they have enough support #ucr50@helloJuJudy
As mentioned in Ch 28, according to the NCAA study less than 3% of athletes pursue professional careers in their sport. That is why it is important that there is enough guidance and support to prepare these athletes for their transition after college #ucr50@helloJuJudy
