@EddieComeaux SRO's do more harm than good & it seems like more money is put towards them than resources. I feel like students fear their lives more & most likely feel unsafe rather than safe. there should be other ways of deescalating a situation & SRO's aren't one of them .#racialjustice
@btoledo50@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Yes! Many athletes are not prepared when it comes to life after sports, most athletes focus on their sport all four years and do the bare minimum when it comes to taking classes just to make grades. There needs to be more help and advisors for these student athletes. #UCR150
I feel like a lot of athletes are subject to focus on their sport more than their academics. I don't want to put these athletes into the stereotypes, but I believe that a lot more athletes are in it for the sport rather than their education. @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely#UCR150
#ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely A lot of people don’t know that not all athletes get scholarships. “A free education is hardly free.” These athletes can’t even make money off their name, how are they suppose to survive through all 4 years?
@LucasMarely @rabea_qamar @MissNallely Everyone believes that athletes get paid full scholarships and that that is why they should receive any type of compensation. But in reality a lot of student athletes are struggling and it’s difficult for them to seek help. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@btoledo50@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar Exactly, these athletes are students first & since they claim that these students are not employees, athletes should have the same right as a non-athlete student. The NCAA only cares about them as a business(athlete),not a student. They shouldn't have no rules for transfer. #UCR150
I think the whole transfer process for athletes is absurd & unfair. There can be many reasons that an athlete may need to transfer&the fact that these athletes have no protection goes to show how much the NCAA doesnt care about them as students. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@SadieChaffee @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely Yes! I feel like it would be easier for athletes to come forward if they see that they can talk to coaches. And on top of that coaches should make sure that athletes are okay by being educated and asking questions when athletes hurt themselves. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
I believe that coaches can create a safe concussion reporting environment by promoting honesty and having an attitude adjustment towards these situations. It would make the athlete more comfortable and less scared.
#ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@vanityanglique @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely I agree Vanity!! I don’t blame the athlete for not wanting to report because it can’t cost them their playing time. But it can also help them in the long run and creating that sense of security could help them. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@NayaliSalazar @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely The fact that there's a lot of schools that are not compliant with Title IX is frustrating. Women not receiving the same equality and equity as men defeat the whole purpose of Title IX. #UCR150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
Although Title IX was supposed to provide everyone with equal access, funding, and equitable sports opportunities. It has done the opposite. Men are geared more to scholarships and opportunities than women. It's unfair. #UCR150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@jess_e_revilla @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely Exactly! Then this leads to athletes having issues later and facing consequences. It's upsetting that they are targeting low income and low informed communities. #ucreduc150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
A lot of students athletes don’t know what they’re signing into when it comes to the NLI. In reality they’re signing their life away even if it won’t seem like it. It’s important for intercollegiate athletes to know exactly what they’re signing.#Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@nick_de_la Yes Nick, I feel like their education comes second as oppose to being first. When it shouldn’t even be like that. Many athletes have their education pushed aside to focus on their athletic performance. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
Amateurism basically states that students are given their participation as an avocation meaning they cannot be compensated, college-athletes should be compensated as they bring in so much revenue and it is never seen by anyone other than coaches #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@btoledo50 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely@helloJuJudy I agree Brenda, the NCAA should compensate their athletes because they generate so much revenue that I am pretty sure they can afford to pay them. #ucr150
@TaniaLema15 @rabea_qamar @MissNallely I find it unfortunate that the NCAA benefits from college athletes while a mass majority of athletes are suffering from food insecurity, housing, grades, etc.
@misssnallely @rabea_qamar #ucr150
I find it upsetting that winter sports were not granted for this extra year when they were just as affected by the pandemic. And YET folks are voicing their concerns and issues and the NCAA is not listening to them. @rabea_qamar @helloJuJudy#Ucr150
The NCAA decided not to grant winter sports athletes an extra year of eligibility after the national tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The NCAA had an opportunity to make this right and chose not to, writes @craigsesker. https://t.co/XGnGKzrefd
