Bike share exploded (5.7 million trips in 2023) north of Bloor once the Yonge St dedicated bike lane was put in place - precisely because there is no other north/south route on a bike downtown - this graphic shows it perfectly.
Car ownership north of St Clair is high - these are residents choosing to cycling instead of driving.
@leechambersCAN@grescoe@fordnation I have taken 16 - 10ft long 8 inch wide galvanized flashing on my bike cart from Dundas W to Bay & Queens Quay. I also carried 300 lbs of cast iron from Dufferin & Eglington to Bay & QQ in my cart. You don’t know what you are talking about!!
@grescoe@fordnation Refreshing, because most North American BIAs prioritize cars like motorists are the ones able to "stop on a whim" the same way pedestrians can.

Here's a point so obvious even @fordnation should get it: every person on a bike is a person who isn't behind the wheel of a car, or in a taxi or Uber, contributing to "gridlock." Without the bike lanes, the streets would be even more crowded with cars.
Which means people outside urban centers have little choice but to use their cars. When they see people moving efficiently on bikes, they get annoyed.
Bikes aren't the problem. Cars are the problem. Especially the aptly-named "Ford Nation," their chief enabler.
Why the scapegoating? Maybe it's because, after years of Ford "administration," Ontario has failed to build transit. Projects that should have been completed a decade ago are plagued by delays. Instead, the Conservatives are pouring billions into highway expansion
It's not b/c bike lanes are holding up ambulances etc. as the #Ontario Conservatives claim. In fact, according to #Toronto's deputy fire chief, response times have actually improved since bike lanes were built.
Business owners love bike lanes!
They bring 1000s more customers past their shops than cars ever could.
High-spending customers, it turns out
So why is @FordNation ripping out the bike lanes that local businesses have come to love?

THIS IS HUGE. Paris City Hall has announced that starting on Monday, Paris will limit (not ban) car traffic in the city centre, as cities like Ghent have done. They’re creating a limited traffic zone (ZTL) about 2 sq miles in size, to clean the air & create more space for people.
Nevaeh Crain was 6 months pregnant, the day after her baby shower, when the Texas teen had to make 3 trips to the Emergency Room until a doctor, who insisted on 2 ultrasounds to “confirm fetal demise,” moved her to the ICU.
Hours later, Nevaeh died.

The UN is warning of the "apocalyptic" death of an entire population of civilians in Gaza.
And yet silence and complicity from the EU, Germany, UK, Biden/Harris. @JustinTrudeau@melaniejoly
The international rule of law died with the deliberate starvation of Gaza.
Hate was on display by candidates of the Conservative Party of BC.
Leader John Rustad did nothing.
@vancolour’s final #LogicCheck says, however he spins it, Rustad abdicated his basic responsibilities as leader.
