The air temperature may have been 40C but surfaces absorb heat and their temperatures can rise way above the air temperature e.g. frying an egg on the bonnet of a car (why anyone would is another matter!)!

@raybirtles1 @LeoHickman The 2 hot days we had didn't destroy any homes. Grass, trees, fences, houses etc do not spontaneously combust at 40 degrees. Several of the fires have already been proven to be arson & the others will have been caused by BBQ's, cigarettes etc.

@WYFRSDaveWalton We produce less than 1% of the worlds emissions. Don’t go blaming us for climate change.We are tiny even if we had zero emissions in the uk we couldn’t change it. It’s global but remember that records kept are only a small indicator and our climate has always changed over time.

We’ll need these trees for building materials to avoid further massive extraction and processing of sand, cement and clay. Also much more clever use/recycling of existing buildings!

As with many things, there is more to this than initially meets the eyes. Like so many bills many different items get lumped in together and with this bill there was lots that progressives couldn’t in all good conscience vote for.
