@arpitrage the low liquidity markets are even worse and should not be used as proxies for probability. Polymarket adjusts to display things with basis of 100% when the reality is just a patchwork of sporadic bids and asks. This one at least has some volume.
@Bwp3000@bendreyfuss Right but my main point is that we do nothing to mitigate this type of thing, so it’s not surprising that FIFA’s actions aren’t illegal. It’s still a shameless cash grab from a nonprofit w a monopoly on the world’s most popular sport and there’s no reason it has to be like this.
This is a devastating interview.
Scott Pelley tells the NYT that Bari Weiss directly put a “thumb on the scale” for Trump over the killing of Renee Good.
Here’s his explanation of exactly what happened.
@Bwp3000@bendreyfuss Alright well you’re either being deliberately obtuse or are just unaware of how rapacious and sleazy fifa is. This is tip of the iceberg: https://t.co/nFf34UKNiv
It's not just the exploitation of a tragedy.
JD Vance's picture of Britain - where migrants have led to a crime surge - is the opposite of the truth.

@_Credible_Hulk@bendreyfuss The irony is the go-to way to circumvent having to use resale market is to get season tickets, but now if you want the right to buy season tickets you often need to literally help FINANCE THE STADIUM for a billionaire via PSL - and bootlickers will insist it HAS to be like this!
@Bwp3000@bendreyfuss No that’s a problem too. FIFA tried to make WC face values an approximation of the crazy prices they expected Americans to tolerate but they went too high and it’s gonna be a mess. Plenty will go unsold. I’m just saying it doesn’t *have* to be this way.
@Ambavalent2964@bendreyfuss That part is true. A NY team in NBA Finals is sort of the ultimate example of market pricing run amok. But it’s the natural conclusion when this is how we’ve decided it has to be.
@PersephoneK@bendreyfuss I’m not saying it’s a problem that the pricing is following the market. It’s that the secondary market is so anarchic that it also ruins the primary market because of speculation, resellers, etc and teams are too greedy to mitigate this when they can make money off the craziness
@bendreyfuss Ok maybe I am making a broader cultural decadence point here, but even if we accept this as natural when demand is this high, I think the market is not as pure as you seem to think. Resellers, bots, brokers fuck up the market, tix will sit at ludicrous prices then just go unsold
@bendreyfuss Resale is FAR less common there and people will exchange them with fellow fans for face value. The clubs also don’t try to price as close as they can to where they think resale market will settle or try to make money off resale market as NFL teams do via ticketmaster, etc
@jfurf@bendreyfuss I don’t think most people saying it’s a problem are upset they can’t personally go I think they’re upset about what it says and wondering why it has to be like this.
