Last night, we hosted a farewell gala in honor of Martina Fors Mohlin, Katarina Westman, and Raquel Baez as they conclude their service at the Embassy of Sweden in #Rwanda. Their dedication and support have been instrumental to the success of the @URSwedenProgram, leaving a lasting impact on research, postgraduate training, and institutional capacity building at our university.

During the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Kayihura M. Didas expressed his appreciation for their outstanding contributions, noting that their commitment has helped the partnership achieve remarkable milestones.

“To date, no other academic and research partnership has delivered such tangible institutional and individual impact as the UR–Sweden Program,” said the Vice Chancellor.

Welcoming participants, Vice Chancellor Prof Kayihura M. Didas emphasized that engaging our stakeholders is essential to strengthening our implementation strategies and ensuring that our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan is realistic, relevant, and impactful.

He also highlighted that the Strategic Plan is aligned with Rwanda's Vision 2050, the National Strategy for Transformation II #NST2, and the Education Sector Strategic Plan, reaffirming our commitment to advancing national development priorities.

Presenting our the Strategic Plan, Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Raymond Ndikumana highlighted digital transformation as one of its key pillars.

He noted that digital transformation will drive research, academic excellence, and internationalization while expanding access to higher education by enabling the University to increase student enrolment beyond the limits of its current physical infrastructure.

He also emphasized our commitment to enhancing graduate employability, producing research that delivers meaningful impact for society, strengthening alumni and global engagement, and advancing internationalization.

The programme continued with a youth-led panel discussion on the theme "What does Kwibohora mean to you in your field?" Panellists reflected on liberation as opportunity, role modelling, owning our narrative, digital responsibility, creative freedom, a creative renaissance, entrepreneurial courage, and cultural identity.
The youth and the RCA Women's Association committed to being the backbone of Rwanda's transformation — embracing the country's vision, setting the example within the diaspora, and carrying the spirit of Kwibohora forward in their communities and fields of work.
Kwibohora32 was not only a celebration of how far Rwanda has come, but a renewed commitment from Rwandans in the Nordics to be part of the journey ahead.

Rwandans living in Sweden, together with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Africa Department), members of the diplomatic corps, friends of Rwanda, and members of the Rwandan Community Association (RCA) in Finland who travelled to join the celebration, gathered to mark Kwibohora32.
In her remarks, Ambassador Dr. @DianeGashumba recognized the bravery of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) in stopping the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, reminding all to remain cognizant of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our liberation. She spoke on Rwanda's remarkable transformation journey 32 years on, crediting the strong and effective leadership of the country. The Acting Head of the Africa Department at Sweden's Ministry for Foreign Affairs noted that Sweden was proud of the longstanding partnership between the two countries and remains steadfast in its commitment. The RCA leadership focused on the diaspora's role in Rwanda's continued progress, calling on members to align with the country's development agenda, get behind national policies, and be part of the journey.

Today, 4 July 2026, marks 32 years since Rwanda’s Liberation — a day that gave our nation a new beginning and set us on a journey of unity, dignity, and transformation. The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda to the Nordic Countries warmly wishes all Rwandans at home and abroad, and especially the Rwandan community across Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland, a joyful Liberation Day.

Today in Stockholm, we prepare to celebrate this milestone together with the Rwandan Community, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and Friends of Rwanda, reflecting on Rwanda’s remarkable transformation journey over the past 32 years. The celebration continues with the GANZA Africa Nordic Festival, proudly prepared by the Rwandan Youth in Sweden and open to all Africans — a vibrant showcase of culture, music, and unity.

Kwibohora reminds us of how far we have come — and of the responsibility each of us carries to keep building the Rwanda we want. As this year’s theme affirms: Rwanda’s Journey Continues.
