interviewed a guy this week

guy joins right on time. dialed in. clean background and dressed well

good start

then I asked him to "tell me about yourself"

he opens with "look I'm not going to read you my resume - you've got it in front of you"

classic - immediately likable

we're 20 minutes in and I like him. but not sold

I ask him why he left his last role. he leans back to think about it

I noticed something on his vest....

Patagonia

as soon as I saw that I knew this guy had carried a real number. probably crushed quota three years running. instant credibility

his answers started hitting different after that

mentioned offhand he worked out a partner deal with Salesforce back in the day. of course he did

told the hiring manager he was the one

this is why interview scorecards are dead

just buy the vest
