.@SecKennedy: “Every hospital in the country is now going to have to publish their prices…If you go to a restaurant and look at the menu, the prices are there. Health care is the only place where you can’t see your prices.”
Armando Duka: "We should have one national team and one country. 🇦🇱🇽🇰 But that's not up to me."
Interviewer: "But maybe we'll have twice the joy if both teams win."
Duka: "No, I think it's better together, we have more potential, we are bigger, it's better in every way, not just from a football perspective."
🔴 I have just stepped out of the building where the theater of shame of international justice is being performed with Hashim Thaçi, who was taken ostage - without trial or charge - from the Office of the President of the Republic, where he had been placed by the will of the people of Kosovo. Alongside the Kosovo Liberation War, which cannot be desecrated by a farce that began with organ trafficking allegations invented by Putin’s Russian puppets of the Duma in Strasbourg, and continued with all kinds of absurdities and grotesque witnesses brought forth by the international prosecution in The Hague. 👎
I found the commander in good shape, calm and smiling, like every innocent man with a spine of steel, even though this time he is subject to absurd restrictions on basic rights that were not imposed during his previous detention - a shame all its own, to say the least.
We spoke about family, about mutual friends, about Albania and Kosovo, about Aurel Plasari’s Skënderbeu, which I had brought him earlier, about Kissinger’s final book, which I brought him this time, and about two or three other titles from the endless list of his readings in this place which, with a smile, Hashim calls “the institute.” 😊
I no longer know what to say about this screaming injustice at the heart of democratic Europe, carried out with the blessing of European states and the United States, and funded by European and American taxpayers, against a European people who liberated themselves from a national-socialist regime, and who also helped liberate Europe from a black stain of apartheid that sat at its very center for decades. 🙏
May the Republic of Kosovo, the Kosovo Liberation Army, and its prisoners - held without trial for more than five years now, in the middle of the so-called Europe of freedom, democracy, and rule of law be blessed. 🇽🇰❤️🇪🇺
Ruben,
May I take a shot at helping you understand?
You receive donations and have become a spokesperson for Banner Health and the University of Arizona teaching hospital, Arizona’s largest nonprofit health system.
You say you’re “fighting to make sure” insurance premiums don’t go up by hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Here’s how your policies make that happen:
CMS, the federal agency running Medicare and Medicaid, does not negotiate prices.
It assigns reimbursement rates based on where care is delivered.
Banner Health is assigned higher rates because it is classified as a hospital or hospital outpatient department (HOPD).
Independent practices are assigned significantly lower rates for the same work.
The same colonoscopy that costs $1,500 at an independent is reimbursed $4,000+ when Banner performs it.
Same scope.
Same doctor.
Different building code.
It gets worse:
Banner uses the site of service differential extra to buy up independent practices that have lower prices.
That’s how the US went from 70% independent physicians in 2010 to 20% in 2025.
Once Banner Health owns them, they stop billing independently and start using Banner’s hospital codes.
Automatically, CMS pays more.
Private insurers follow.
PREMIUMS GO UP!
And here’s the kicker:
Banner Health runs its own insurance plans. When Banner’s insurance arm pays Banner’s hospitals those inflated rates, Banner is paying itself, with employer premiums, federal Medicare and state Medicaid dollars.
Money in.
Money out.
Same pocket.
Banner pays no federal income tax, zero AZ tax, and zero property taxes as a nonprofit while buying up competitors, charging monopoly prices, paying executives millions, and hoarding billions.
Nothing about the medicine changes. Just the billing code.
CMS assigns the rate.
Banner collects it.
Families pay it.
Ruben,
Now you know how your policies raise premiums and hurt Arizona families.
