On Sep 24 I noindexed 690 thin pages. On Oct 3 my pSEO site went to ~zero, and I blamed the noindex.
The by-page export says no: the 101 pages I never touched fell 99.5% too.

Your coding agent now outlives your terminal.
Since Codex CLI 0.157.0, opening one interactive session installs a persistent background daemon — and nobody asked you first.
Here is what actually happens:
The daemon that never leaves
codex app-server --managed-daemonstarts with no TTY, gets reparented to PID 1, and keeps running after every Codex window closes. It only dies on daemon stop or reboot.
374MB of shadow install
The whole platform package gets copied into ~/.codex/packages/app-server-daemon/releases/ — byte-identical to what npm just installed. Your backend version is now decoupled from the CLI version you chose.
A self-updater you didn't hire
A detached loop checks for updates 5 minutes after start, then hourly — downloading releases and restarting the backend, which can kill active turns.
The issue (openai/codex#48195) asks for the obvious: make daemon_auto_start opt-in. The escape hatch is codex features disable daemon_auto_start.
When did "open a CLI" start meaning "install a resident service"?
