We experimentally proof that the grain size distribution does not have an effect on the mobility of dry granular columns, but it does in immersed conditions.

GEOLAB has a podcast series! GEOLAB is releasing a podcast series by @c_abrer_a Stefano Muraro and William Ovalle Villamil with 3 episodes which will delve into the experiences of participants in the Next Generation of Researchers Training Workshops in the Networking Events.
The following video presents the driving of the 25mm diameter and 210mm long hollow steel tube under 1kHz vertical vibrations for a https://t.co/pk4xDlCik9 eccentric moment and a static mass of 73g.
Latest paper: with @dacantor & Carlos Ovalle we show (and explain why) that the currently accepted construction of effective and capillary stress tensors for wet granular assemblies is no longer valid in polydisperse granular material !

(2/2) Despite this, we confirm that a simple mobility model accurately correlates the column mobility with its kinetic energy!
Fabulous collaboration with @AzemaEmilien, @NEstradaMejia and M. Renouf from @umontpellier & @inguniandes

Last paper! We developed new experimental method based on 3D "Digital Volume Correlation" to -experimentally- track the mechanisms in play during the compaction of highly soft grains packing deep in the jammed state.

Curious about how grain's shape and orientation affects the mobility of a granular flow when interacting with a fluid? 🌊🥢🌲
Nathan Coppin did a fantastic work in exploring the motion of elongated grains in our recent publication at @PhysRevFluids
This was a fantastic collaboration with N. Coppin, M. Henry, V. Legat and J. Lambrechts @UCLouvain_be, and @AzemaEmilien and F. Dubois @LmgcMontpellier
Looking forward to the next adventures!

🤯 Surprisingly, the dynamics of elongated grains mimic the mobility of circular grains!
This is well captured by a simplified mobility model (formulated by @SantiagoPolana), confirming the dependency of the column initial geometry and packing fraction!
