Karamoja region faces a multitude of climate change challenges that often feel indescribable prolonged droughts leading to famine and water scarcity.

With a literacy rate in Karamoja at just 24% below the national average, it’s essential to communicate these critical issues in our indigenous languages. We must translate complex climate concepts into words that our community understands and can engage with.

Cultural galas held by various communities draw large crowds, celebrating our heritage through songs in local languages. As leaders in this movement, it’s vital that we weave messages about climate change into these songs, making them resonate deeply with our people.

Charcoal burning remains a primary source of income for many, and halting this practice without accessible alternatives could plunge families deeper into poverty.

To effectively tailor climate change #Adaptation strategies for African communities, we need thorough research. Each community faces unique challenges some contend with droughts while others battle floods and so on. By understanding these specific needs, we can modify strategies that work effectively.

In our culture, traditional practices like reading the intestines of goats to forecast weather patterns hold valuable insights. For a just transition, we cannot leave these communities behind. We must embrace and integrate traditional knowledge with modern techniques to ensure resilience.

Empowering and amplifying the voices of local communities in climate change discussions is crucial.

The rate of firearms recoveries from Western Uganda this year is increasing. Though currently minimal it is a worrying trend. In Karamoja we learnt the hard way what armed civilians are capable of.
