News: #Somaliland appoints new ambassador to #Ethiopia
Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the appointment of Ambassador Sharmarke Ahmed Muhumed Gelle as its new envoy to Ethiopia, tasking him with strengthening political, economic and historical ties between the two sides.
According to the ministry, Gelle is a seasoned diplomat and public servant with 15 years of experience in Somaliland’s government and international relations. His new assignment will also focus on advancing Somaliland’s broader engagement across Africa.
Gelle previously served as Chief of Cabinet Secretaries at the Office of the President from 2015 to 2016, supporting cabinet-level decision-making and coordinating policy implementation across government institutions.
He later headed Somaliland’s Civil Service Commission, where he oversaw institutional reforms aimed at improving public-sector efficiency, accountability and service delivery. He also served as Deputy Ambassador to Kenya, contributing to Somaliland’s diplomatic engagement and regional relations, according to the ministry.
The appointment comes amid strained Ethiopia-Somalia relations following Ethiopia’s January 2024 MoU with Somaliland, which reportedly envisaged commercial and potential military access to the Red Sea in exchange for possible recognition of Somaliland. Somalia condemned the deal, while regional actors raised concerns over its implications.
Ethiopia and Somalia later reached the Ankara Declaration through Turkish mediation, effectively sidelining the MoU as Addis Abeba pursued rapprochement with Mogadishu.
In 1979 Ethiopian population was 34.5M and Somalia was 8M afer 46 year, in 2026 Ethiopia 130M and Somalia 20M.
Average Ethiopian household is 4 and average Somali is 7. Something doesn't add up, Either Somalis has been undercounted or Ethiopian census are inflated beyond belief

A forensic audit by MP @MPDrAbib exposes that "the Speaker of the House @AadanMadobe, the Permanent Secretary, and the WHIP engaged in a coordinated scheme to embezzle over $3.5 million in just five months through fictitious contracts, fraudulent procurement, duplicate expenditures, and cash diversions."

Today marks 34 years after (SNM) MAFIA militia aka secessionist one clan enclave " Somaliland" carried out brutal attacks that resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians in Borama and Dilla ( Awdal state)
On February 4, 1991, the SNM targeted the Awdal region, particularly the towns of Borama and Dila, where they indiscriminately killed thousands of people, primarily from the Gadabursi clan. These killings were not limited to combatants but extended to unarmed men, women, and children, leaving entire communities devastated. Survivors recount horrifying scenes of mass executions, burning homes, and bodies left unburied or dumped in mass graves. The SNM's actions were widely seen as ethnically motivated, aiming to terrorize and displace the Gadabursi population. Despite claims of fighting against the central government, the SNM's violence against civilians has left a dark legacy that continues to haunt the region.
Interesting scoop from Semafor's @YinkaWrites. Trump may recognise Somaliland, a breakaway Somali region that has de-facto self-rule. Potentially significant ramifications for the Horn of Africa. https://t.co/Sx04gcPSeu

The sensible Mullah.. Sayid Muhammad Abdullah Hassan:
The film deals with the biography of one of the most important Somali fighting figures who wrote a history cherished by every Somali citizen to this day, a figure who fought the English, Italian and Ethiopian occupation.

Tonight could be Laylat-al-Qadr - one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar, when Angel Jibril revealed the Qur'an’s first verses to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The first word of the Qur’an revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was ‘Iqra’ which means ‘Read’
