EXCLUSIVE: Sheikh Jameel Sheikh Usman (lawyer) along with more than two dozen Muslims pelted stones at a Hindu family taking their Ganpati Murti for immersion in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, saying it wasn't allowed in their Muslim-majority area.

Several family members were hit on the head, chest and feet, locked themselves inside as stones kept hitting the house.

I have passionately worked for all students coming from poverty, like I did, including those from the SC community, to rise in life through education and hard work. That is the national prerogative.

When we question the wisdom of good teachers like Prof Suryanarayana Doolla and subject them to mental agony in the name of SC/ST welfare, our nation sends a very wrong signal, both to dedicated teachers like him and to aspiring SC/ST students.

That is why I strongly believe this case must be withdrawn and we must not allow the law to be weaponized this way.

I am proud to say that my DKV community, classified as SC and is about 9% of Tamil Nadu population, has achieved a consensus in this, and as a community, we refuse to support filing these cases.

I hope good sense prevails.
