Cactoid Labs is pleased to announce @yatreda, Vol. 7 of @LACMA's Remembrance of Things Future blockchain initiative, in which pioneering digital artists are invited to respond to the museum’s collection & make new works.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
A milestone sale of $1,500,000 USD is complete for a full triptych of works by @john__gerrard, presented with @fellowshiptrust together for the first time at @ArtBasel Zero 10 in June:
‘WESTERN FLAG (SPINDLETOP, TEXAS), 2017’ depicts a flag of carboniferous smoke over the Lucas Gusher, site of the first major oil strike in 1901. The real-time simulation is an edition of 4 + 2 APs.
‘FLARE (OCEANIA), 2022’ depicts a flag of gas over a heating ocean, the South Pacific near Tonga. The real-time simulation is an edition of 5 + 3 APs.
‘STANDARD, 2023’ depicts a flag of water vapour over the Mojave Desert in Nevada, looking to a hopeful future. The real-time simulation is an edition of 4 + 2 APs.
Fellowship co-founder @halecar2 comments that the ability to highlight all three works together at Zero 10 was an important factor.
Via @eli_schein:
“The outcome for John Gerrard and Fellowship demonstrates what is possible when digital practices are presented as they were always intended to be: as a critical part of the contemporary art world. These worlds have been artificially separated for too long, and results like this suggest that collectors are ready to move beyond that distinction.
A central goal of Zero 10 is to connect exhibitors and artists with new communities of collectors, curators, and institutions. Sometimes that results in a sale on the fair floor - just as often, it begins a relationship that deepens over the weeks and months that follow.”
🌵❤️ Sharing photos of @halecar2's stunning survey at @SFMOMA, which I was fortunate to see a few weeks back. A revelatory expansive vantage onto Mexican & Dominican life.
🌵❤️A love story captured on camera, intimate & journalistic, whose images I've returned to repeatedly. Had the pleasure of walking through this career milestone w/ the lovely Martina Negro & @cryptocactoid

🌵❤️ I see inspiring exhibitions around the world, but rarely find time to share with others. So today, I'm posting photos of the incredible Maurizio Cattelan survey we saw last summer at the Serralves Museum in Porto. Each room in this gorgeous mansion on their campus was devoted to a singular work by Cattelan. Many of you here know Cattelan’s Comedian (aka The Banana).
✨Beyond this iconic/memetic work, Cattlelan reveals himself throughout his oeuvre to be the quintessential conceptual trickster, political commentator, and above all a highly gifted ruminator on the role of Powers and the Sacred. From death to politics to the Pope.
✨His works are chillingly, even painfully beautiful. I was especially blown away by his recreation of Sistine Chapel, which I must say, I enjoy more than the original because one can actually get up close and examine the magnificence of each painting. I hope you enjoy!
🌵❤️Proud to see @williamapan's gorgeous Distance #241 chosen for @batsoupyum + @ToledoMuseum's 'Levine Letters'
✨Distance is William's response to Paul Klee's historic watercolor, In the Kairouan Style, Transposed in a Moderate Way (1914), in @LACMA's collection, part of @CactoidLabs + LACMA Remembrance of Things Future initiative
🌵❤️ What a great project Toledo and Bats :)
✨✨Phenomenal presentation of @beeple’s work @nodefnd . Was wonderful to see so many friends & a massive outpouring of local Palo Alto families & fans show up. Line was around the block❤️🔥Bravo @mickymalka , Becky Malka, Mike, Scott, & team✨
Happy to announce that in late 2022 I became a meaningful co-owner of @beeple's landmark artwork HUMAN ONE. This seminal piece blending digital, physical, and temporal is the most important contemporary artwork of its generation. @jeannievu and I are proud to have been co-owners alongside @kukulabanze (the original buyer in 2021) and @pablorfraile for the past 3 years, and grateful for 1OF1's leadership in elevating the work to numerous venerable institutions like Castello di Rivoli, MPlus, Crystal Bridges, Mori Museum, and now @nodefnd

🌵 ❤️Excellent read -- shifting conversations on digital & time-based media collection /conservation!
"For museums, this rate of change poses significant exhibition and conservation challenges, but curators, collectors and acquisition committee members highlight that these are outweighed by the relevance this art has to contemporary daily life."
"Accelerating relevance is not the only factor. Work that takes hardly any space at all to store is increasingly attractive to museums bursting at the seams with paintings and sculptures."
