Let's not forget that BBM's father was a brutal dictator who banned anime and video games in 1979 for:
“excessive violence”
If we don't call this out, BBM may actually do it in an attempt to look tough and save his poor approval ratings.
I'll say it again for conservative boomers like Marcos:
Banning games won't fix school violence. Focus on the root causes.
Your government already takes what little we have as taxes. Do something smart with it. Scapegoats are for the incompetent and lazy.
UPDATE: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants further study on proposals to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 12, citing the need to consider experts' opinions on the effects of social media on children.
However, he is in favor of banning violent games that are clearly "responsible for the desensitization of children to violence."
"I think we should ban them and we will ban them," Marcos Jr. said. | via @HarleneDelgado

@Colleen_FS@TrentahinGirly@risahontiveros When Risa ran after the Gorebox dev, she should've also released a clear statement that she is not in favor of banning games. Similar to what Bam said at the time.
A clear statement or publishing the list of invited experts for the inquiry early would've prevented confusion.
@geeyanii@TrentahinGirly@risahontiveros I agree. I am not about to defend some in the community, because I am sure may bad actors talaga.
Pero, there are also those who were genuinely just misinformed due to the lack of a clear statement from her in the beginning.
I am sure they appreciate what Risa has done today.
If you think your kids are addicted to games like Roblox, ask yourself why.
Kids rarely escape into virtual worlds unless they're starved for connection, attention, or an escape from real-world stress.
Excessive gaming is a symptom of underlying needs, not the root cause.
GATCHALIAN MULLS BANNING ROBLOX AT HOME: 'YUNG AMING PAMANGKIN, ADDICTED NA'
WATCH: Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian revealed that their family is considering banning Roblox at home, saying his family member has become "addicted" to the popular online game.
"Ipapa-ban na ho namin 'yung paglalaro ng Roblox kasi 'yung aming pamangkin, addicted na addicted sa Roblox... palagi po naming pinag-aawayan 'yan," Gatchalian said.
Gatchalian made the remark as the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, chaired by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, conducted a hearing on the possible influence of Roblox and other online gaming platforms on violent behavior following the school shooting incident in Tacloban. 📷 Senate of the Philippines
It's clear that mistakes were made on both sides, but it's time to move past the defensiveness and work together for the safety of our children.

“Malinaw po sa akin, hindi games o gaming community ang kalaban."
Everyone of us in the FIlipino gaming community should try to appreciate the fact that Sen. Risa Hontiveros listened and clarified her stance.
I doubt any conservative trapo would even consider that.

Cayetano is unfortunately right on this.
But they should not be the only ones who can use the "protests are meant to inconvenience" card.
Students, progressives, and civil society groups planning to hold protests against them should remember that.
CAYETANO: PROTESTS ARE MEANT TO INCONVENIENCE
WATCH: Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who attended the EDSA rally of the Iglesia ni Cristo, apologizes to those inconvenienced by the surprise protest action.
“Pasensya na po sa mga nata-traffic but protests are meant to inconvenience para magising tayo sa nangyayari,” he told reporters.
The former Senate president also said he expected the cases against his allies, in light of the pending filing of plunder charges by the ombudsman against INC member and Sen. Rodante Marcoleta. | @bylancemejico
Senator Risa Hontiveros denied claims that she wants to ban "GoreBox" following the school shooting in Tacloban on June 22.
“Medyo pinutakte ‘yung office ko over the weekend sa mga fake news na gusto ko daw at gusto daw namin i-ban. Walang ganon. ‘Yung temporary pag-ban, particularly sa Gorebox, si CICC po ang gumawa nu’n,”
Sinabi ni Senador Risa Hontiveros na hindi niya nirekomenda ang pag-ban sa anumang online game matapos ang nangyaring pamamaril sa isang paaralan sa Tacloban City.
Aniya, magkakaroon pa lang ng pagdinig ang pagdinig ang Senado ukol dito.
"every Filipino's constitutional right to peacefully assemble and express their views"
Next time na magpa-disperse ang pulis sa mga activists at progressives, isampal niyo quote na yan sa gobyerno.
Ang kulto may constitutional right, pero kapag average Filipino illegal?!

If BBM wants to leave an indelible mark in Philippine history, then he should do what all previous Filipino presidents failed to do:
Bomb the bridge between the government and the religious cults.
If these were your regular activists and progressive groups, you can bet the government will go all in with dispersal and water cannons.
But if it's a RELIGIOUS CULT with connections to the government, okay lang?

"I never recommended, said, or even thought about banning any game."
I am glad Senator Risa finally clarified that.
We needed this clarification days ago, but it's significantly better than nothing. We look forward to the senate inquiry!
Sen Risa (fighting through flu) clarifies that she never wanted games banned.
In this interview she demonstrates how nuanced the situation is that’s why she’s holding a hearing on Wednesday
