Israel has brought to light the suppressed truth and historical legitimacy of Somaliland that had long been denied.

For the first time since Somaliland restored its sovereignty, the Security Council addressed Somaliland’s status through documented evidence, historical continuity, and established facts.

No resolution, statement, or measure was adopted to invalidate or reverse sovereign diplomatic recognition. The proceedings concluded without legal action, and the record now stands.

Somaliland’s status is not a matter of debate. The Republic of Somaliland was an internationally recognized state in June 1960. The subsequent union was never lawfully ratified. Since restoring its sovereignty in 1991, Somaliland has exercised uninterrupted, peaceful, and effective self-government.

Recognition does not create Somaliland; it merely aligns international practice with an existing reality that has endured and will continue to endure.

Israel’s action at the UNSC Emergency Meeting has illuminated the long-suppressed truth and historical legitimacy of Somaliland, restoring to international attention a reality that had been unjustly overlooked for decades.

🟥Somalilanders don't take lectures from other countries.

#Somaliland has been fighting for 34 years to achieve international recognition. The nation pursued its own interests in recognizing #Israel—strategic access to Yemen, Red Sea positioning, Abraham Accords alignment—decisions made by Somalilander leadership for Somalilander benefit.

The propagandistic linking of this recognition to Palestinian displacement serves NO Somalilander interest. It only:
- Undermines Somaliland's diplomatic legitimacy
- Provides ammunition to those who argue Somaliland is an Israeli proxy
- Creates false narrative that Somalilanders sold out Palestinians
- Imports regional conflict into Somaliland's international positioning

The irony is profound: pro-Palestine activists claim to defend Palestinian interests while simultaneously using Palestinian suffering as a tool to delegitimize Somalilanders' own sovereignty quest. This is itself a form of instrumental exploitation—weaponizing Palestinian suffering for purposes unrelated to Palestinian liberation.

Somalilanders should not accept lectures from the Arab League, African Union, or pro-Palestine activists about whom they should or should not recognize. Somaliland's foreign policy is determined by Somalilanders, according to Somalilander interests. That Israel was first to recognize Somaliland, for strategic reasons, is NOT a moral failing of Somaliland. It is the reality of international realpolitik.

The false claim about Palestinian displacement should be rejected swiftly and decisively—not because it might be "bad for Palestine" (a consideration that matters to Palestinians, NOT Somalilanders), but because it is factually false, unsupported by evidence, and instrumentally weaponized to serve regional interests hostile to Somaliland's own legitimate aspirations.

However, the citizens of the Republic of Somaliland are concerned about the lack of an active and effective social media presence from our officials. At a time when the world is actively searching for information about Somaliland, and when the State of Israel is publicly defending our existence, it is vital that we have a well trained and media savvy team capable of defending our nation against disinformation spread by the enemies of Somaliland and those who oppose our existence.

On X alone, there are hundreds of young Somaliland patriots who tirelessly defend their country. Unfortunately, their influence can never match the impact of official statements or posts issued from verified government accounts.

During the MOU period with Ethiopia, Somalia and its allies aggressively bullied and spread disinformation online. Ethiopian officials, however, were well prepared and responded swiftly and effectively on these platforms, refuting false claims as they appeared.

It is also important to note how seriously Israel treats digital diplomacy. Israeli embassies around the world are highly active on social media, regularly retweeting and responding to developments in real time. Israel’s Foreign Minister and other senior officials are also consistently engaged online. This visible and coordinated presence demonstrates seriousness, readiness, and state credibility on the international stage.

A clear example of the impact of official engagement is when our former ambassador, Ambassador Roda, refuted Ilhan Omar’s claims in her official capacity. Her response was cited by well known newspapers and acknowledged by prominent United States officials, demonstrating the power and necessity of official representation in the digital space.

Somaliland didn’t cross a line. It exposed one.

What was recognized by 🇮🇱 Jerusalem was not a cause, but a fact -
a state before union, governance after collapse.

Within hours, the same analogies were deployed:
the Palestinian file, the Turkish-occupied areas of the Republic of 🇨🇾 Cyprus, the 🇲🇦 Moroccan Sahara -
as if repetition could replace law.

It didn’t. It inverted history.

The Turkish-occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus are the product of invasion and occupation.
The Moroccan Sahara remains addressed through autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.
The Palestinian file remains unresolved amid division, fragmentation, and failed governance.

None of this describes Somaliland.

Somaliland governs.
It holds elections.
It maintains institutions, order, and continuity.

That is why it was recognized.

What unsettles capitals is a standard Jerusalem applied:

sovereignty earned through governance, not grievance;
through responsibility, not rhetoric.

Apply that standard consistently and the implications are unavoidable -

from Kurdistan to 🇹🇼 Taiwan (Republic of China) to Balochistan 🌍

Somaliland was not the exception.
It was the precedent.
Others are being assessed.
