One Decision May Have Permanently Damaged Aman’s Luxury Reputation
Luxury isn't marble bathrooms, private pools, or a $6,000-a-night room.
Luxury is how you treat a guest when something goes wrong.
That's why what's being reported about Amanvari has surprised so many people.
Travel reviewer Ryan Walker, who had booked and paid for his stay, says his reservation was canceled the night before arrival. Unaware of the email, he made the two-hour drive to the resort anyway.
When he reached the entrance, he says he wasn't allowed in. Instead, he asked for one thing: a conversation with management.
According to Ryan's account and the videos he shared, no manager came out. Security allegedly refused to let him speak to anyone, and the police were called.
Whether or not the resort had operational issues during its opening week isn't what people are talking about today.
It's how the situation was handled.
Had someone simply picked up the phone...
Had a manager walked out to apologize...
Had the hotel arranged an alternative stay...
This story probably wouldn't have gone viral.
Instead, Aman is now dealing with a PR crisis, with many social media users questioning the brand's response. The comments on Aman-related posts have also been flooded with people asking for answers and justice for Ryan.
For a brand like @Amanresorts, whose entire reputation is built on exceptional hospitality, discretion, and personalized service, that's a much bigger loss than the cost of a complimentary night's stay.
This is also why I think independent reviewers like Ryan Walker matter.
He isn't known for demanding freebies or trading reviews for perks. He pays for his stays, documents what he experiences, and lets viewers make up their own minds. If you haven't already, it's worth watching his video and hearing the story directly from him.
The biggest lesson here?
In hospitality, every employee represents the brand.
A reservation agent, a security guard, a front office executive, or a general manager can either reinforce decades of goodwill or damage it in a matter of minutes.
People rarely remember the room.
They always remember how they were treated.
