@leerobi08433142@itskcGG Not entirely. It is a combination of the *aspects* of UE5 and UEFN. It is an entire engine, and an upgrade to the previous generation. Think of GPU's, the next generation of GPU's, whilst can be similar to the previous generation, still is vastly different in most aspects.
@HalfwayDeadRL I think this last month has definitely been an INSANE step up for the game, and it just keeps on going. I think it's all that combined in the last month that makes this even more insane. All the QoL was amazing, and the changes have also been nice, but this is the true future.
@MAKINGUWORK@eternalrll It's a teaser, not a trailer. A teaser follows on another sub-set of credentials, where the release date is typically not included in the showcase. It is to typically arouse hype within the community, and shine a light on the future, not to say when it will happen.
@glunkinator@Jawad289036203 All hardware is going to be outdated over time, all that matters is when. Chances are, a card from the 10/20 series NVIDIA will still run it perfectly fine.
@crispxxcy@eternalrll I hope that this next year, or even just worlds, will shine light on this. I would also love to see a public beta release prior to the full release, as feedback would be greatly appreciated on the corporate side.
@MAKINGUWORK@eternalrll UE6 projected release is in 2028-2029, but that is the public release. Epic Games, as they own the engine, are planning to release Rocket League as the first game under the new engine, and will probably release it in a 2027 drop. In doing so, it shows people the engine now.
UE6 and what it means for the future of Rocket League. (Some theories) I’ll also encourage you to go through some topics in this tweet that you find interesting and share your thoughts! Really interested to hear what you guys think about everything.
Release Date late 2028 - early 2029:
If we were getting it next season they would have put a release date in the trailer. 2028 season will be more info with a release date and start of 2029 will be when it’s released for everyone to play. This is the first game being officially announced with the new engine. So 27-28 will be used to get everything ready as we get into the next generation of games.
New Opportunities:
RL has been a relatively small community for a while now. But these next few years while we wait for UE6 are going to be extremely crucial for us as a community. New businesses and organizations are going to look to be part of the new game. Views are going to be at an all time high with new people wanting to see what all the hype is about. So let’s make sure we use this momentum to truly make RL one of the greatest games of all time.
Game will 100% be ported to Fortnite:
We already knew that this was happening for a while now. Fortnite will also be seeing massive changes as that game moves over to the new engine, but I also think this could mean that we get a client similar to the Riot Client. This also means the game won’t be supported on steam anymore.
Trading is not coming back:
There just isn’t a world they bring it back when it’s shown that RL will be just as successful with or without trading. + removing trading of course means Epic generates more revenue with people having to buy credits to get the items they want.
CONTENTTTTT:
This is probably the thing I’m most excited for as a big part why there was so little done to this game is because it’s so hard to build anything on an engine that is 20 years out dated. UE3 (what RL is on) officially launched in 2006, UE4 released in 2014 and Rocket League released in 2015. You can only imagine the resources it takes to add new assets, new hit boxes, maps, or anything on something that was made so long ago. Let alone the amount of money it takes to add anything new, that EPIC doesn’t deem worth it if there current formula is working.
RLCS and Competitive:
The game is still going to play exactly how it does now, I saw a lot of people worried that they are going to essentially have to learn the game again which just isn’t true. Imagine going for SARBC to RL. Same game with just a bit of getting used to. I do believe there’s going to be a drastic increase of new talent as a lot of older players retire with the change. But I’m extremely excited to see this new generation of talents. But with UE6 also comes a new MMR system, which is much needed at this point.
Closing thoughts:
Today honestly gave me so much nostalgia to when I first picked up and played RL. All the people reacting to the announcement, news articles that have never once talked about RL before getting hundreds of thousands of impressions, logging onto RL after worlds to see nearly 900,000 people online at once. Sorry if this came off as a rant or anything but I’m genuinely so happy that RL is finally getting some love. Also I wanted to add how important that KC win was today. Some people may not of known but the French President was watching RLCS today. In his eyes, he has seen what it means to be a fan of esports, and how much it means to fans all over the world. KC, you’ve done more today for the esport world than you could ever imagine. Congratulations on your win, and seriously what a performance. 🇫🇷
@TheEmilaiah@eternalrll I believe that all of these issues could be fixable with a public beta, to be honest. Doing so could allow all these things to be tested before implementation in its entirety.
people are being way too shortsighted about UE6. yes, it’ll probably arrive around 2028, but that’s missing the bigger picture entirely. the real impact is what this announcement does right now for rocket leagues future. It signals to players, orgs, investors, creators, etc that the game isn’t going anywhere. rocket league now has a confirmed long-term future, and that alone is going to drive more people to invest time, money, and effort into the ecosystem. honestly, the community just needed hope. this announcement proves epic still cares about the product, and that reassurance is massive for the health of the game. It gives players confidence that the passion they pursue everyday will still be around and thriving years from now, which makes pursuing content, esports, and other opportunities around the game feel far more sustainable. and that’s before even talking about what UE6 itself could bring feature-wise or the possibility of UE5 being used as a transition phase beforehand. for the future of rocket league, this was pretty much the best announcement we could’ve gotten. nothing else would’ve matched the hype or restored this much optimism around the game, it’s all a massive snowball effect.
@FrontalPanda My guesses on dates would be as follows: "I see a UE5 public beta late 2026, release in early 2027. UE6 public beta in mid 2027, full release in late 2027".
This would not surprise me, and honestly would be great for the game if this works.
