When the Environmental ministry, @moefcc calls for objections themselves, why ban the sites that are objecting to draft EIA 2020. Pls Clear this confusion @moefcc@PrakashJavdekar.
Request @pmo and @goi_miety @rsprasad to pls look into it 🙏🏽
“Earlier, a big flood would come once in a decade. Now, they happen every other year.” I try to explain Kaziranga’s life-giving floods, how increasing high floods can acquire a destructive character, what can be done to keep it in check. For @ieexplained

85% of #Kaziranga currently submerged-its a natural phenomenon necessary for its riverine ecosystem but it has become more frequent due to #ClimateChange - the animals there know & seek higher elevations of Karbi Anglong hills. Park Fragmentation, corridor encroachment = Problem

The human population is also badly affected leading to deaths & man-animal conflict & loss of life & property. Solution lies in early flood warning, educating and maybe relocating of villages, restoring & keeping the corridors free. Biggest solution is not cutting anymore forest🙏🏽
Most animal deaths happen while crossing NH-37 running through #Kaziranga highlighting that human infra structure should not go through National Parks. The highway along with badly allowed resorts, hotels, shops and ancillary tea estate structures further block this movement.

There has to be a scientific study on the reasons as to why the flooding gets worse year after year.
Assam floods are fueled by climate crisis, poor embankments, deforestation, encroachment and lot more reasons.

Assam faces floods every year. National media barely covers it. Govt wants us to live with it. It's been ages yet no solution till today. No political cooperation. Blaming on the topography is the only thing they've been doing.
