A lot of fans want Barcelona to walk away from the Julián Álvarez deal, but there’s one question nobody seems to answer:

If not Álvarez, then who?

The striker market is almost nonexistent.

Haaland? Impossible.
Harry Kane? Bayern won’t sell.
Lautaro Martínez? Inter won’t negotiate.
Isak and Ekitiké? They’ve just committed their futures to Liverpool.
Kroupi? Injured.

So what’s the realistic alternative? Oyarzabal? Gonçalo Ramos? None of them offer what Álvarez does or fit Flick’s profile as well.

That’s why I understand why the board is still trying, even if the chances are only 1%. Barcelona reportedly offered €150 million, which is a huge amount for a club that only recently recovered financially. If the deal fails, I won’t blame the board. Sometimes the selling club simply refuses.

If Álvarez doesn’t arrive, Barcelona will have to work with what they already have. Ferran Torres can lead the line, Hamza Abdelkarim could get opportunities from the reserve team, or Flick can use a false nine, just as PSG successfully did. Players like Dani Olmo, Raphinha, Adeyemi, and Gordon all have the qualities to play centrally when needed.

Let’s wait until the transfer window closes before judging the board. If Álvarez doesn’t become a Barcelona player, it won’t be because they didn’t try.

Is Burning Really Good for an Ecosystem?

Token burning has become one of the most popular mechanisms in the crypto industry. Whenever a project announces a burn, the market often reacts positively because many people believe that reducing supply automatically increases value. While burning can certainly strengthen a token’s scarcity, it is not always the best decision for an ecosystem. The real question is not whether burning is good, but whether it creates more long-term value than the alternatives.

Every ecosystem has limited resources. Once a token is burned, it is permanently removed from circulation and can never be used again. That means those same tokens can no longer be invested into attracting developers, supporting new businesses, rewarding ambassadors, funding builders, or accelerating ecosystem growth. Burning increases scarcity, but it also removes future flexibility.

On the other hand, distributing tokens without a clear purpose is equally dangerous. If rewards are given to people who do not contribute meaningful value, the ecosystem experiences inflation without corresponding growth. More tokens enter circulation, but adoption does not increase. In that case, both the community and long-term holders ultimately lose.

The healthiest ecosystems understand that supply and demand must grow together. Burning helps control supply, while ecosystem incentives help create demand. Developers build applications, ambassadors expand communities, businesses bring real-world utility, and users generate transactions. These activities create reasons for people to own and use the token beyond speculation.

This is why the discussion should never be simplified into “burn or don’t burn.” The better question is whether a token creates more value by becoming scarcer today or by helping the ecosystem become significantly larger tomorrow. If investing those tokens can generate far greater adoption, utility, and network activity, then the long-term value created may exceed the benefit of reducing supply immediately.

In the end, successful ecosystems are rarely built by aggressive burning alone, nor by unlimited distribution. They are built by maintaining the right balance between scarcity and growth. Burning is a powerful economic tool, but it should support ecosystem expansion rather than replace it. The strongest blockchain networks are those that know when to reduce supply and when to invest in the people and products that create lasting demand.
