The Canadians just adopted new dietary guidelines. Some argue that the shift away from red meat was necessary to lower the country’s carbon footprint. Here is the official Canadian GHG emission inventory. Livestock GHG are not negligible but quite minor compared to fossil fuels.
How Canadian cattle provide benefits to the environment. Pasturelands remove greenhouse gases from the air and store them in the soil, 32% of Canada’s agricultural land can not be used for crops. On these lands cattle convert plants humans can’t digest into high quality protein!
