@NTarnopolsky Just a small linguistic point - the post makes "vaccinated" appear interchangeable with "immune", and that's an oversimplification that taken out of context could downplay the importance of protection from serious illness.
@davidhaigh@ID_AA_Carmack Note from the README on the Bayesian repo, they link to the repo @ID_AA_Carmack referred to. So I'd say the answer to your question is "yes".
Clarification: the marginal correlation between estimates of CFR and R0 induced by undetected cases is negative, not positive as my poor grammar suggested above. Put simply, it is either milder and more contagious, or deadlier and less contagious.
Professor Ioannidis, an eminent scientist and role model for younger statisticians like myself, expresses concern about estimates of R0 and CFR, and claims that the virus might be less contagious and less fatal than has been claimed. Source here: https://t.co/k3YS0s37us 1/
As a result, Ioannidis' points are absolutely critical to think about and address in the mid-term, but I don't see how they change the picture in the immediate term. end/
Below is a quick thread on why a short, sharp, sheer shutdown of 4-5 weeks will be effective and desirable, based on my conversations with @yaneerbaryam and others over the past weeks.
First, why are ~4 weeks enough to do the trick? 1/n
@NAChristakis@Stanford@jflier Ioannidis is a master. But his account fails to "explain away" the exponential increase in *severe* cases (and deaths), which is a function of R0 and CFR but *invariant* to our uncertainty about their estimates as the latter are correlated - i.e., he fails to explain away Italy.
@SamHarrisOrg please ask @NAChristakis for citations for his stats and put them on the podcast to save time for scientists that want to follow up on the work.
