@AlmostMedia At least the gov now realizes it is something. And I agree w your take.
That said, saw this paper recently and felt it was interesting to speak of the overall effects of gov owning companies.

Nice paper in Journal of Government and Economics! TLDR: State intervention -- via state-owned entreprises (SOE)-- is understated in the data.
Using the universe of Belgian firm-to-firm transactions from 2002 to 2019, Pablo Muylle and Emmanuel Dhyne trace how SOEs influence private firms through supply chain.
While SOEs directly generated only 6.4% of Belgian value added in 2019, private firms purchasing from at least one SOE accounted for 87.9% of value added. Thus, SOE (i.e., the state) could "restructure" economic activity via procurement of SOEs. It also opens door to rent-seeking that affects the performance of both SOEs and private firms.
Firms sourcing from SOEs tend to be larger, more politically connected, less productive and profitable, but also more stable and more likely to survive, especially during economic crises.
The paper concludes that analyses of state ownership and liberalization should account for these indirect supply-chain linkages rather than focusing solely on direct state ownership.

The Pantheon is the most sustainable building in the world.
2,000 years old. Preserved by every culture because they found it beautiful. Much more sustainable than any bamboo hut or any of those places that we now think of as being sustainable.
Beauty begets preservation.
@lukeburgis One reason why the ppl who don’t have the ‘code words’ are so strong (bc they had to perform that much harder not knowing the lingo) or passed over.
@BrentBeshore@abarrallen Absolutely. It’s one of the greatest blessings to encourage them in rethink/ refine who and how they operate. And it’s an art as well.
OR the family tempers you in the opposite direction, sadly.
I picked it up from others around me, from my church, and in philosophy classes in college.
Knowing to manage the interior life, you must be ‘outside’ or not tied to, your self, right?
I’m just glad in a couple of weeks you can no longer tease me about your book bc it’ll be out!
@patrick_oshag@colossusmag I don’t mind this line of thinking. I do however want to encourage that even illegitimate regimes can do quite extensive harm and be in power for decades. Human Civilization has taught us this lesson innumerable times
