Big news for hepatitis B!

After the remarkable success of curing hepatitis C, we are finally making real progress toward a functional cure for hepatitis B!

The FDA just approved bepirovirsen (Hibsago), a first-in-class antisense oligonucleotide, following two phase 3 trials published in NEJM.

About 19% of patients achieved functional cure (sustained HBsAg loss and undetectable HBV DNA after stopping treatment), compared with 0% on placebo.

The treatment involves 6 months of weekly injections and is currently approved for selected patients without cirrhosis.

19% may not sound like much, but I think this is a meaningful step forward.

Hepatitis B is a major cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer (HCC). Hopefully, treatments like this will eventually help us prevent more cases of both.

We still have a long way to go, but this is very encouraging progress!

Üniversitedeyken Yapı Kredi Sinema Günleri olurdu.. Hep tek başına giderdim kültür merkezine ya da birlikte gittiğim arkadaşım yanımda uyurdu. 😅 Bu filmi ilk o zaman izlemiştim. 19 yaşındaki Ezgi, bacağını kaybeden mankene çok üzülmüştü. Şimdiki Ezgi de, hayatta en sevdiğini kaybedince neler olabileceğine. #amoresperros
