Proud to share that our manuscript was published this week in @Nature_NPJ Vaccines! This paper is the first instalment of my PhD work on a project that I was very lucky to be a part of

A novel study in npj Vaccines by @caolann_b defines immune correlates of protection (CoPs) against SARS-CoV-2 using systems immunology and machine learning tool (SIMON) in 90 macaques across 4 vaccine platforms. Thread with key findings below 🧵

🚨 New Paper Alert! 🚨 Just published in @npjVaccines!
We used our #AI/#ML platform #SIMON 🤖 to define #SarsCov2 correlates of protection using preclinical NHP data. Great collab w/ @Carroll_Lab_Ox@UniofOxford, led by @caolann_b!
Key findings:
✅ Antibodies🛡️ best predict clinical protection.
✅ T-cells💪 + Abs🦠 predict viral control.
🤔 Protection ≠ Viral Control!

Excited to share that I passed my DPhil viva yesterday! I’ve learnt so much in the last 3 years and I’m very grateful for all of the input and encouragement I received! I’m feeling very inspired for the next phase of my research career while studying medicine at @UniofOxford!
Congratulations to @caolann_b who passed her DPhil viva yesterday! Thanks to Prof Helen McShane and Prof @ChrisChiuLab for being viva examiners
Caolann is now starting medicine @UniofOxford and we wish her all the best in her career!
New paper out @Nature - why are males more vulnerable to severe infections (ex acute #COVID), while females suffer more from autoimmunity (SLE, MS etc and also #LongCovid)? sex chromosomes or hormones?
Here we studied adaptation of human immune systems to gender-affirming testosterone treatment in trans-men assigned female sex at birth: https://t.co/HzCQI6GUwn
It was great to be back in Dublin this week for academic reasons at #ECI2024 - I learnt a lot! It was great to give the final presentation of my PhD, back where it all began!🇮🇪
So, @bykatewomersley @marinadpol and I wrote something.... please take a look!

Pandemics: The Unanswered Questions
Researchers @CillianGartlan, @caolann_b, @hannahjklim and @gracehood_ explain the science behind the public's Covid-19 questions, including the likelihood of future pandemics and why many viruses come from bats.

Thank you @iuis_online for organising a fantastic conference in Cape Town! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many great scientists and engaging in exciting discussions #IUIS2023
Some behind-the-scenes from our upcoming micro-documentary with @OxfordSparks ‘Pandemics: The Unanswered Questions’. Stay tuned!
This is part of a public engagement project made possible with funding from @ReubenCollege and @PSIOxford
Last night we debuted a new public engagement project called ‘Pandemics: The Unanswered Questions’ @morethanadodo as part of the ‘Connected Worlds’ event. We really enjoyed discussing all things pandemics!
Stay tuned for more on this project! @gracehood_@caolann_b
The first publication of my DPhil is out now! This review article provides the rationale for the experimental work of my DPhil. I hope to see correlate of protection investigation being more frequently included in studies involving animal challenge models! Thread and link👇
New research article by our DPhil student @hannahjklim showing how environmental and land use factors can be used to model high-risk regions for probability of exposure to potential zoonotic reservoir species. Short thread below🧵#spillover
Thoroughly enjoyed presenting my first year DPhil work at #BSI22 - thanks to @bsicongress for accepting my abstract. Really appreciated the engagement and questions - thank you to @Leo1401j and @jenneratingVacc for chairing such a great session!
