Ragebait. If the fiancé is presently in the apartment, and if it is also his apartment, what leads to the assumption that his mother has a key to let herself in? Could she not have called ahead to see if her son was home and then rung the doorbell and waited to be let in?
My friend changed the locks on her apartment three weeks before her wedding.
Not because someone broke in.
Her fiancé had given his mom a key.
My friend found out when she came home from work and her future mother-in-law was sitting in their kitchen.
She freaked out.
Her fiancé said,
“Relax. She's family.”
My friend said,
“Family doesn't need a key to my house.”
He got annoyed and said she was being dramatic.
Then his mom literally looked at her and said,
“I just wanted to make sure you weren't neglecting my son.”
My friend stared at her.
Then she looked at her fiancé and said,
“You knew she was coming here?”
@BrianRoemmele@760_470_2515 Oh wow, I’m only now realizing that I’m old enough to have to explain how early e-mail woked in the same way as I sometimes have to explain rotary-dial phones, manual-crank car windows, VHS tapes, and recording one’s favorite songs off of broadcast radio.
@BrianRoemmele@760_470_2515 Some folks on this here platform are so young as to not know that “podcast” is a play on words combining “broadcast” with “iPod” (a device that was cutting edge in its day but which is rapidly being forgotten).
@Alex63985827725@SamaHoole But, to your point, what may once have been essential may now be unnecessary or even detrimental to our continued progress. It’s like a retired athlete who no longer burns off a vast quantity of calories and thus knows not to continue eating as if still in training.
@Alex63985827725@SamaHoole The mammoth hunters didn’t split the atom or land on the moon, either; the point being made is that their diet—rich in protein and saturated fat—fueled the evolutionary brain growth that in turn facilitated Homo sapiens’ later innovations.
@patchinscitadel @Softnessa_ Tolerance would have kept American colonist under the yoke of British rule. Tolerance would have persuaded Rosa Parks to give up her seat on the bus.
@dv_williamson@mikeroweworks I can believe it—she wasn’t done belittling him over what she deemed his awful sense of humor, and she wanted him to know how unimpressed with him she felt. (Plus, I’ll bet he was her ride home and she didn’t want to risk humiliation by asking someone else to come get her.)
@smiivano@Simon_Ingari When AI can replace low-level employees who put together reports, it will also replace the higher-level (and higher-paid) managers whose job was to keep the lower-level employees working. AI will need no oversight; it will only need tech support.
@gldnst23@nut_history I think these factoids are a testament to the storytelling power of filmmaking. Does Will Smith hit as hard as Muhammad Ali did? Which of the many actors who have portrayed Superman can actually fly?
@Furytech_1 @JSamwise Arya experienced remarkable growth in the series, but remember that Brann now sees past, present, and future, and he is king of six realms and still influential in the seventh.
@Mr_mecmecmec@nettermike It would have been a one-way mission if the airliner’s passengers hadn’t pre-empted the need for it with their own action—when Penney and Sasseville launched their mission, they could not have known that they would be spared from sacrificing themselves.
