I didn't pay much attention to this site
Because most of my clients hesitate to work for startups as their first job in a new industry.
Was I ever wrong to ignore this site. ๐
Learning how to use TweetDeck based on @MeetKevon Build In Public Mastery training.
Great filtering options to narrow down what I want to look at.
Any tips or tricks you'd recommend when using TweetDeck?
#buildinpublic
Hey career changers going into UX/UI...
What part of the job search (besides getting a job) is your greatest struggle right now?
#uxdesign#careerpivot#jobsearch
My new #buildinpublic project - thanks to @meetkevon and his masterful cohorts. Mine is delayed due to family emergencies during the recent cohort.
I will continue documenting my journey as I build a resource for career changers entering design to gain real-world experience.๐
In my search to find resources for 'real-world' projects, I've also come across ideas for what I call 'pseudo real-world' projects.
Such as designing:
-a feature of your favorite app
-an app you wish existed
-a smart TV app
-an app pertaining to your passion
What else?
Here are some ways to find real-world projects for your UX portfolio:
- Visit local businesses
- Ask friends/family
- Check freelance websites
- Search volunteer websites
- Offer your services to a local non-profit
Any other ideas to add to the list?
Not only will you get a project for your portfolio, you'll gain so much more
- teamwork
- client interaction
- referrals/recommendations for other jobs/projects
- +++
What has been your experience with volunteer projects from any of these (or other) sites?
I want to help career changers into UX/UI design find real-world projects to put in their portfolio
I evaluated 4 websites that have volunteer projects.
This is what I learned: ๐

@arvindhsundar Just completed this guide! Highly recommended! Not only does it give you a big picture of your business (the game you are playing), but clarifies next steps for your business --- and keeping it fun at the same time!
Thanks @arvindhsundar!
