It didn’t make the headlines, but yesterday France, the Netherlands and a few other EU countries promised to end imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027. This is a damaging blow to Russia’s economy.
Hosepipe ban WCs tell customers to "Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth. Keep showers to 4 minutes when you can".
Meanwhile those involved, @SouthernWater, @thameswater, @sewateruk and @YorkshireWater between them leak approx 1,055 BILLION litres of water EACH AND EVERY DAY from their badly maintained, underinvested, cracked old network of pipes. Ho hum.

Heartbreaking. 💔 The government has rejected proposals to protect England’s chalk streams.
The UK is home to 85% of the world’s chalk streams, rare, precious ecosystems found almost nowhere else on Earth. These rivers are our nation’s rainforest, crystal-clear lifelines for biodiversity, heritage and communities.
We cannot afford to lose them in the name of short-term economic growth. Some things are too rare to risk, too vital to ignore.
🌿 Chalk streams need protection. Not promises.

🤑🫰 Ever wondered where your hard-earned cash went when Thames Water got bailed out earlier this year? You probably thought it went towards paying back their vast debts and improving infrastructure, not that it's lining the pockets of a failing water company's "worthy" boss... 🤬
This Saturday, the UK is saying ENOUGH to fat cats and this broken system in need of transformational reform. Join the Paddle-Out Protest and demand better for the ocean and our rivers. 🌊✊

We were promised action; all we get is betrayal.
In 2023 water companies in England and Wales spent 4,608,494 hours dumping sewage into the environment. @Ofwat say if you get a 1 star environment rating your bonus will be banned.
Q: How many water industry fat cats do you think would get their bonuses banned for dumping 4,608,494 hours worth of sh*t into the environment in 2023?
A: None. Every single bonus would be paid.
What a shambles!
Today, our courts sided with the model of profiting off pollution by permitting failing Thames Water a £3 billion bailout. And we are furious.
We believe this judgement is a massive missed opportunity for making an example out of our failing water industry and taking a step towards the transformational reform the broken water sector urgently requires. The Government still has the opportunity to place the debt-ridden company into special administration, however, they seem intent on sitting on their hands. But this fight isn't over.
Our friends @We_OwnIt and @WindrushWasp
have done incredible work in forcing the court to consider this case. Now, we need to have the Independent Water Commission in our sights, and we will be doing everything we can to ensure they deliver government recommendations to overhaul this broken system. Stick with us and we will #EndSewagePollution
Hear from SAS Campaigns Manager, Rob, on his take:
Thames Water, which is over £16 BILLION in debt, has just been granted a £3 billion rescue loan. Last December it was still paying fat dividends to bosses and shareholders.
This corporate greed and entitlement needs to be stopped.
As I’ve said before: It’s fucking WATER.
Have you ever been dazzled while driving at night?
As some insurance companies suggest nearly 1 in 10 accidents are caused by headlights, Baroness Hayter is urging government action to try to reduce glare.

Today the high court sided with the fat cats and bosses and granted a £3 billion bailout for Thames Water. This is a sticking plaster that will allow Thames Water to limp along until it requires another bailout, with customers footing the bill.
Government must step in and put Thames Water into special administration and restructure the water industry to end pollution for profit and deliver a water system that benefits people and planet, rather than greedy polluters.

@jennyeclair I had a whole week of 'side effects' where I couldn't even work. And it turns out weight loss jab isn't a magic pill. You still have to diet and exercise! So disappointing.
