No doubt the US is leading the way But for the love of the future of game, use your platform for a long term solutions! Broaden your perspective and humble your hearts. The fight is so much bigger and deeper than the surface rhetoric being chanted .#USAWomensWorldCupTeam
Yes, play your best and don’t apologize for it. But where was the #feminist solitary and sensitivity to refrain from the privileged gloating that also occurred?
Can’t help see the stark disparity from #USWomensSoccerTeam and the rest of women’s global teams. As thrilled as I was to see the perfect play that lead them to a 13 nil win. I was simultaneously crushed because it was against Thailand.
Impossible to elevate the level of international competition if other countries don’t, or won’t, or CAN’T invest in their female athletes. This generate superstar teams all over the world that will ultimately generate the kind of billions that the US women team is clamoring for.
The wealth of this nation and its willingness to invest in women’s sports have been the proverbial shoulders on which these incredible athletes have stood on. But they’re has been no mention of this on the global stage this year, and this is a massive loss for everyone.
In the US most all schools have teams. Even the poorest schools have some kind of field to play on and equipment to use. States hold organized competitions and have top notch college/university level programs. These collegiate athletes are treated like royalty
Even something as basic as the means (and willingness) to give them enough to eat on a daily basis has shaped their success. Yet this is never talked about. This happens within the family. This is a cultural and socio-economic issue that is far more complex. Let’s talk about that
Parents in this country have seen their daughters as legitimate athletes and have treated them as such by investing their time and resources -they sign them up for rec leagues, spend from the family budget to purchase cleats, balls, camps, and tournaments.
I’m proud of the long-standing tradition of US women’s soccer. But their success is largely due to this country’s investment in the kind of athletic programs and infrastructure that supports young girls in the game.
Of course the men’s World Cup will produce more revenue. The disparity is built into that fact. That’s an issue much harder to tackle than a chant for #equalpay can possibly address.
Not much has been mentioned on the fact that that the #WorldCup competition started in 1930 and has been historically for men only until just recently in 1990. It’s been a male driven sport for 60 years before women were officially ever given the opportunity!!
Lots of talk about #equalpay during this #FIFAWWC with the 2018 men’s WC earning upwards of 6 Billion. The women’s WC earned around 131 Million. #FIFA paid around 30 million in prize money to the women’s teams, roughly 22%.The men’s teams on the other hand were paid around 6%
Dr. Mary Hudson #CSW63 “the only place where we are irreplaceable is in our relationships - hold that close. That should be the primary orientation of our choices.” What do women want? We want to be valued and care givers, we want to be supported.
