The biggest unlock in content marketing right now isn't publishing more, it's publishing things that get cited and amplified.
Product-led tutorials. Original data. Research studies. Almost everything else is noise an LLM will summarise away.
A lot of my conversations at WordCamp were about the tough times that many of us are facing. Perhaps the CMS usage data shared by @GravityView can give us some perspective about the changes in the market recently.
In short, the downward trend continues:

Seeing SEOs panic about "AI content" getting hit and advising people to no-index everything.
The problem was never AI. It was lazy prompting with zero QC.
Build real workflows: research, fact-checking, style guides, verification.
Fix the process, don't abandon the tool.
I attended @ahrefsevolve in Singapore recently.
I went expecting tactical #SEO content. I left thinking about something bigger: the gap between what’s possible with #AI right now and what most marketers are actually doing with it.

Short-form video is one of the highest-performing content formats right now. Making it is painfully slow.
So I built a system where AI reads our changelog, demos the features in a real browser, and outputs branded reels automatically.

@KatieKeithBarn2 Interesting! As with anything, there are multiple factors at play—Google updates, AI/Lovable/Vibecoding. But another that's not talked about enough is WordPress losing market share to Shopify and other newer, CMSes.
The atmosphere at this year’s #WCEU has been overwhelmingly positive and it has been an excellent event for a thriving community. However, there are some hidden cracks under the surface. I’ve spoken with a lot of product owners and the majority say their new sales are down - often by a lot.
The ones with flat sales generally rely on .org for their marketing. The only products which are growing are the ones that only recently started to do marketing, so they were building from nothing. Pretty much all established products which rely on content marketing are down. Strange times.

We were missing @jdevalk's excellent WordPress market share research, so I pulled the updated numbers from @HTTPArchive.
#WordPress powers 33% of the web in 2026, down from 36% at its peak.

@jeffr0 Hey! I just published a blog post on how to set up Claude Code for marketing success, and I think it addresses this quite well. Let me know what you think.
MCP = connective tissue between AI and the various apps you use on a regular basis.
