REASONABLE INDIAN AMERICANS CLOWNING ON SAWANT: Earlier this year, CM Kshama Sawant somehow bamboozled the entire Seattle City Council. The socialist councilmember convinced her colleagues to pass a “caste discrimination” bill, protecting the rights of lower class Indian Americans in the workplace, especially in spaces like tech, medicine, and academia.
She claims discrimination is happening based on a social hierarchy brought over from India.
On the surface, pushing this bill seems like a virtuous cause. Problem is, there’s virtually no proof or data this is happening at scale. In fact, I could not find a single official report of “caste discrimination” in Seattle. Meanwhile, well meaning Hindus claim it unfairly puts them in a negative light and could expose them to frivolous lawsuits and complaints.
Now Sawant is mad Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a statewide “caste discrimination” bill in CA. Which likely means WA Gov. Inslee ain’t touching this with a ten foot pole either.
