@The_Tahoth@xtracombatphase Agree, I just hate the super name-droppy quote attributions. It's like if they reprinted Keep Out and the flavor text was,
"Keep out!"
--Peter Parker, also known as The Amazing Spider-Man
That's kind of how it all looks to me
@The_Tahoth@xtracombatphase I kind of see what you mean, but at least they're not literally "character references the card name". Also I think the two STX cards are actually fine; even the changeling is okay. I agree Keep Out is pretty uninspired, though.
Due to Claude's non-rolling 5-hour limit, you should always begin your day by sending "gm claude". That way the period starts sooner and when you actually start coding, you don't have to wait as long for the reset!
@sgodofsk I'll excuse you if you happen to take the (almost certainly wrong) Cartesian view that animals are mere automata without subjective experience, but otherwise, this is one of the worst opinions I've ever seen on this app.
@_chair@MorlockP That's fair, though based on her blog I do think she's actually very smart and recognizes not everyone shares her values, and I'd probably prefer her as POTUS over any of our current front-runners... (low bar though)
@Sinnoware But so many immersive sims just give you infinite lives anyway! I find it insulting that in System Shock (remake) you just get revived with no consequences. I always reloaded because it felt cheap. Same problem in SS2 but at least it's not totally free...
Still amazing games!
@TiffaniMarie483 My idiosyncratic style is I put the punctuation inside for actual quotations (like if I'm writing dialog) and outside if it's a reference to something, like the name of a song. This probably makes everyone mad.
@bitplane@allTheYud What is the determinism argument? I personally don't believe in free will (in fact, I find it inherently self-contradictory) so it's no problem for me to say humans lack free will but have consciousness, and maybe LLMs are the same.
@HRpufnsting@BDEgameowners I also think it's very different if it's UB of ancient myths/cultures vs a contemporary TV show. It's just trashy. FWIW, I actually dislike Arabian Nights and PTK too, and they're mostly seen as exceptions. Now people bring them up to justify UB as if they were the norm
@HRpufnsting@BDEgameowners Reminder that Portal Three Kingdoms was, for a long time, a purely promotional set that wasn't tournament legal. I'd be fine with UB if it was the same. Also, Arabian Nights was considered a mistake in retrospect. Bad arguments.
@AMortell@rittenhouse2a A bit too harsh, I'd say, but I appreciate that you can decouple your personal hatred from the facts of the matter. Need more of this in the world
@nkreu113r@LinkofSunshine Arguably that's not butterfly effect stuff! I would take it to mean random interactions at the level of molecules, though of course that's a very human-oriented category and doesn't make sense if you think about it too hard
@tripledoublebtc@aswren@ethancorded No it's not. Consciousness is possibly the most mysterious concept in science and philosophy. The shape of the earth is possibly the least.
Starting to seriously believe the issue here is that people believe humans have free will and LLMs don't, and you can't have consciousness without free will. Personally I'm a quasi-panpsychist determinist so I don't have this problem! https://t.co/nvYnT5DLEO
@SydSteyerhart LLMs cannot be conscious, they are mathematical weights taking an input, and producing an output. They cannot initiate thought. Just input -> output. And it’s embarrassing that Dawkins of all people doesn’t understand this.
@zweiwalker89607 Yes but so many books have a preface, author's note, foreword to the second edition, etc. so I get the impulse to skip all that crap and I'm not surprised if the prologue is collateral damage. If I write a book with a prologue I'm calling it Chapter 0.
@lion_tender@JoeLongBalls I actually think they did a pretty good job of making them bizarrely specific phrases. That said, the whole concept is a bit crazy...
