Years later, as Prime Minister, he took a ₹5,000 bank loan to buy a Fiat because he would not use an official car as his own.

He died before he could repay it.

The government offered to waive the loan.

His widow refused — and paid every rupee from her pension.

This was Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Power never raised his standard of living. It only raised his standard of duty.

He died (or killed?) in mysterious conditions in Tashkent after winning 1965 war for Bharat against Pakistan.

To me.... 2nd October matters only because it's Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti. Rest anything & everything is irrelevant.

Appreciation tweet for Smit Machchar - An Indian who saved the lives of 180 Israelis in spite of being stabbed repeatedly. He was the pilot who averted the hijack and crash.
