“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
@jzipple Sniff around …
A Jesuit priest went on a sick call to a poor tenement, but no one was sick at the address.
He asked if anyone else was sick. And they mentioned a woman in another room.
He went to the other room. A dying prostitute. And he gave her the sacraments.
Laus deo!
@DavidAFrench May I suggest reading and analysing the actual wording of the First Amendment.
It’s about stopping actions by the federal government.
It doesn’t extend to private corporations.
I think that perhaps G-d is like a Catholic patriarch in one of the Eastern churches.
With a long, unkempt beard. Always quoting Holy Scripture.
Dedicated to prayer and the liturgy, but not to the rubrics.
Amazingly gentle with penitents, but ferocious with monks and nuns.
@scary_biscuits@GrayConnolly “Puritans banned bear baiting, not because of the pain caused to the bears, but because of the pleasure afforded to the people.”
Can’t help wondering if there isn’t a strategy involved.
Get people so scared about climate change that they won’t notice any other attacks on our society.
@HoodAllah On the other hand …
I visited an Ethiopian church in Jerusalem. And the priest showed me his favourite icon. A cheap Italian picture of the Sacred Heart.
