This display of political theatre at the expense of disabled kids + their families is horrible. Where were all these speakers when ABC excluded wheelchair users from the Stanley Park train? We have SEGREGATED classrooms in Vancouver, where is the rage? 1/5 #vanpoli
It is the sign of an archaic system that is not working for anyone. And this is not just a BC issue. Families with medical complex kiddos from across the country are reporting the same.
You can't fix a system when you are being crushed to death by the weight of its failures. There has to be an easier way for people on the front line of problems to be heard by those making poor choices at the top. #sameproblemdifferentminority#bccomplexkids#medicallycomplexcare
The answer to food insecurity is never more food banks.
Poverty is a government policy choice.

Families are now only allowed night nursing shifts (no day shifts) and those shifts are being reduced to 8 hours.
Only a fraction of those shifts are being covered.
In part because nurses want longer shifts, with competitive pay and benefits.
But the problems run deeper.
Plans for a complex care centre are moving ahead and our families are deeply engaged in the process.
Meanwhile current supports are systematically being reduced and we are begging for family voices to be heard. @adriandix
It doesn't make any sense.

“Providing adequate support for these children and families is not only essential for those affected, but provides preventative care, avoiding inpatient hospitalization, which further drains resources, is expensive, and worsens outcomes." https://t.co/pgQBWBr6pc
It’s really a shame you have to point out the cost benefit of providing support as a proactive method. It should be people first. Cost should be secondary. @DevPeds
'We conducted a follow-up experiment of 578 principals... It turns out [they] viewed disabled students as imposing a greater financial + temporal burden... to preserve resources, they engaged in a subtle form of exclusion: strategic avoidance.' https://t.co/lMpVnQyqu3
Please join Catherine MacGillivray and myself speaking to the benefits of a publicly funded national disability insurance plan. Such a plan would finally serve all persons with long term and chronic disabilities. Register here: https://t.co/kYlaRD5kra

"Instead of portraying disabled children as burdens on their families—scholars and policymakers should focus on how ableism and poverty burden disabled people and their families in ways that pattern health risks." https://t.co/WnRP4F1G9C
"How did it come to this? How have liberal democracies become so enticed by the sinister notion that children should be eligible for euthanasia?"

As #caregivers we are rarely invited to be part of #HealthSystem design & instead are limited to feedback & advice. There are notable but few exceptions. Little will change until we lead with you. Person-centred #healthcare will only happen by collaborating & co-designing with us
Exhausted parents, I ❤️ you. We need each other more than ever.
As caregivers we research, schedule + worry. We battle medical bureaucracy, government gatekeepers + discrimination. We are levelled by depression, anxiety + isolation. Many parents are in financial ruin. #bcpoli
