@niamhnih It should be beyond belief but sadly it’s not in Ireland. There is also absolutely no way they didn’t think to include a FA expert which I assume is a Neurologist from Ataxia Clinic before now, it sounds like yet another political excuse.
Fancy some 90’s Nostalgia?? Have a read of my new article for @IrelandB4UDie & indulge in some memories of the best of the greatest decade. Before it all went *hand gestures* 🤪 #90s#ireland

The Cost of Disability payment needs to be for Disabled Adults; working, not working with DA/other social welfare, no income due to family circumstances e.g. married/partnership, parenting, NON-MEANS TESTED. It is not about income, increasing the Disability Allowance (that is an important and separate issue), lack of services, or family income or for family members in a care role (again, important but different). I hope the Summit is open, transparent, and a space where people can be heard. Clare Leader Forum @LeaderClare have called for an implementation process with Disabled People (stipends and supports to participate on an equal basis) and DPOs central to it. @AccessForAll7@AdvocacyIreland@DisabilityFed@IrishWheelchair@_DPIreland @ILMIreland @Mayo_DPO@jcawleyjnr@daracalleary@DW_Ireland@IrishDeafSoc@InclusionIre@MaryamDPI@TomClonan @SocDems @SimonHarrisTD@MichealMartinTD@NormaFoleyTD1

Conor highlights the reality of the #CostOfDisability: skipping meals , sitting in cold homes, and putting off medical care.

To hear @GillSherratt23 articulate what parents have been going through for such a long time now is both heartbreaking and infuriating.
We also need to be reminded Gillian and Steven are doing all this whilst in the midst of a loss no parent should have to go through.
Shameful.
Powerful.
While his family fought for him, every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year of his Nine short years.
Children’s Health Ireland wrote him off as, "Not Fit For a Sneeze"
One of the biggest Health Scandals in the history of the State needs a Statutory Public Inquiry with the Parents & Advocates setting the terms of reference. Not the politicians who have consistently failed the children with spina-bifiida and scoliosis.
No other child should be failed by the country like Harvey was.
We don’t get angry enough in this country, especially when it comes to children, their health and wellbeing. From the homeless children to the children on hospital waiting lists. The country is failing too many of it's children.

We fought for Harvey at 12 weeks pregnant when we got the diagnosis.
We fought for Harvey at 36 weeks pregnant when they suggested withdrawing medical care at birth.
We fought for Harvey when we found out he had severe scoliosis and had only been linked to an orthopaedic surgeon that deals with feet.
We fought for Harvey when they dismissed my concerns around allergies-later diagnosed as anaphylactic.
We fought for Harvey when they tried to provide a buggy instead of a wheelchair.
We fought for Harvey when he had delays getting a suitable hospital bed for home.
We fought for 5 years to get him a speech device so he could communicate.
We fought for him to get scoliosis surgery.
We fought for answers when we found out he was removed from the surgical list.
Harvey is now gone and we will continue to fight for him, and for the other children and families facing these unnecessary and cruel battles.
We fight because Harvey deserved better and we fight because that is what Harvey always did.
If government or CHI think we will ever be quiet and just accept what has been allowed happen, they simply haven’t been paying attention.

I’m addressing this for the last time.
The politicians that spoke yesterday did so because they were invited to.
They were invited to because they showed support and solidarity to our family and other families of children with disabilities while Harvey was alive and continue to do so in his death. Do I agree with all the policies of all the politicians that spoke? Absolutely not. But we were all united on the fact that @CHI_Ireland and this state has absolutely been failing our kids and that needs to stop. Saying you didn’t come because you do like ‘so and so’ honestly is a slap in the face of our disabled children.

The suffering Harvey was forced to endure should never have happened. Tomorrow, let’s unite to demand justice for him, and every child failed by the system. We must stop this catalogue of failures now. Join Gillian and Stephen, along with the scoliosis and disability community, at the Garden of Remembrance at 2 p.m. to stand together. #JusticeforHarvey #CHI
A very important demonstration.
Let us come together and demand justice for Harvey, his family and all our children waiting on vital healthcare.
