@psalkovskis@jordanticus But Aaron T Beck appeared to have narrowly (and perhaps mis)understood what psychoanalytic theory predicted see https://t.co/Jpv3eSTtZM
@demetriastudy@FeistyKittyPie I would recommend "Perversion - An Erotic Form of Hatred" by Robert Stoller. It gives an account of the development of all forms of sexuality which I found interesting. I think it should also win points for having a ridiculous title.
@AdJongh@kezkel101@lacreshahall@MarkLRuffalo I'm also interested in how it was possible to show change on the BPDSI-IV between pre and post-treatment as the interview measures over the previous three months?
@KemtrupTweets distress tolerance skills or mindfulness to the entire population have several times shown to be counter-productive. There’s no reason to think psychoanalysis would be any better.
@KemtrupTweets I’m a psychoanalytic therapist and think that we can too easily stray towards preaching a secular religion of how to live life. Our concepts work in the context of the lives of people reaching out for help amidst significant distress. Large school based interventions to teach 1/
Where has the #CassReview taken us on #suicideprevention?
•Evidence across the board is weak: new research on treatment outcomes is essential.
•Risk is likely to be high - mental disorder, autism, family conflict & bullying are known risk factors.

@marcuse99903226@Hilary_Cass@SexMattersOrg What do you make of the lack of mention of psychoanalytic approaches in the Cass review - CBT, family therapy and "evidence-based" approaches mentioned but no psychoanalytic psychotherapy
Going to a child psychoanalyst four times a week for three years was bad enough. Reading what she wrote about me was worse.

@psychmag@BPSSexualities I'd be interested in this... I'm a clinical psychologist interested in getting into writing more. What would the word-count be?
The recording of the Red Clinic event - Adam Phillips and @Avgolis in conversation at the @FreudMusLondon - is now available:

The response that a clinician has towards their patient -- fear, horror, anger, elevated concern, etc. -- is often discussed in terms of "countertransference" or "projective identification" in analytic thought via contributions from object relations, relational analysis, etc.
@cliffe_ali I don't think there is any need to exaggerate what is happening and I feel that this blog post does. The misstruth I highlighted risks contributing to clinicians feeling anxious to explore or raise safeguarding concerns.
@cliffe_ali Might it not be truer to say the climate is intensely polarised? I think regardless of the position you hold, teams working with gender either end up in a heated ongoing argument or groupthink. The particular genre of groupthink varies.
@marcuse99903226@thetimes Can I ask where this 90% figure comes from? I'm not aware of any research that looks at desistance/persistance outcomes of psychological support.
