Loved the emphasis on probe grip/movements this AM from @hmpocus (Greg Mints) & @TanpingWong. Really useful tips here. Of course I like to describe the pen style grip as "hold it like you're throwing a dart"...but not everyone plays bar games I guess ;)
Take home points
-IVC US is not easy.
-most useful in extremes.
-don't rely on 1 M-mode image. check B mode in subxyph long and short axis too.
-watch for craniocaudal + mediolateral movement.
-midaxillary view underestimates IVCCI.
-interpret findings in clinical context.

I recently saw the largest pericardial effusion of my life. Something out of a text book. Any guesses on how much was removed?! #MedEd#CardioTwitter@grepmeded
