@mishmoshk The D3 PC request for equity guidance and the extraordinary efforts by wellplaced parents to block the meeting/initiative is just another example of how @NYCMayor@DOEChancellor cave when pushed by the privileged. Quite a lesson in itself.
"The act of simply going into our schools and using a youth-created survey to raise and value the voices of youth became one of the purest forms of youth activism."
Check out this article that I helped write with fellow members of @metronyu's Youth Technical Assistance Center for Addressing Disproportionality about the power of youth research in interrogating disproportionality in schools.

"Arbeit macht frei" was a false, cynical illusion the SS gave to prisoners of #Auschwitz. Those words became one of the icons of human hatred. It's painful to see this symbol instrumentalized & used again to spread hate. It's a symptom of moral & intellectual degeneration.
Did you know: every year 5 SEE members serve as official Quality Review shadows?
This year they presented recommendations for facilitating student conversations and suggested Q's to better assess youth voice and equity.
Thank you, QR team, for real youth-adult partnership!
Italians under a nationwide coronavirus lockdown have been showing community spirit by sharing music and song from their apartment balconies. A trumpeter in the Sicilian city of Trapani recently joined in with a rendition of John Lennon’s 'Imagine'. #coronavirusitaly
To @NYGovCuomo@NYCMayor@NYCSchools
"We are writing to ask you to close our schools, support the members of the community who rely on the services our school provides, and establish remote learning so that our community can mitigate the risk we are facing."
@christineloug14
Feeling hopeful after tonight's @CEC3NYC Equity mtg that conversation is shifting from academic acceleration to resource allocation and understanding what each @NycDistrict3 school actually needs. The disproportionate clustering impacts student's lives throughout D3 community
Last night's @CB7Manhattan meeting SDAG member @Estuaryqueen amplified need for communities to demand @NYSA_Majority@NYSenDems create commission to address changing Mayoral Control w/ genuine accountability.
Seems only folks pro Mayoral control are @BilldeBlasio@DOEChancellor
@PositiveSubway @NYCMayor I agree with both of you but the trick here is that this should NOT be just the Mayor’s call! We need more democracy, not autocratic rule! As unruly as it is, community input/autonomy and checks/balances should move the future of Public Ed in NYC!
"In addition to forcibly evacuating 120,000 Americans of Japanese background from their homes...EO 9066 called for compulsory relocation of more than 10,000 Italian-Americans and restricted movements of more than 600,000 Italian-Americans nationwide."

@PositiveSubway "Merit". I'm intrigued by how closely aligned merit is with other traits like socio-economic advantage, especially in the NYC public school system; https://t.co/N9z7LLWE7P
ICYMI... we won! Join us tomorrow (Monday 2/17) for a rally with BP @galeabrewer celebrating our victory against the gerrymandered zoning lot at 200 Amsterdam Avenue. Northeast corner of Amsterdam and 69th at 11AM. See you there!
Many parents believe that their kids should stay "on track" to maximize their chances of success, but @DrMadelineL argues that kids don't need to stick to a linear path to live rich, fulfilling, and successful lives. https://t.co/J1BWRCELbI
2018/19 15 of 32 D3 PTAs contrib'd @ $3MM to school Galaxy bdgts. Nearly $600K as pvt grants typically from "friends of" entities. Many PTAs pay more off Galaxy. There are 17 D3 schools whose PTAs don't make/report these contribs. How is @CEC3NYC addressing this equity issue?
@cdgiordano1@NYCSchools@CEC3NYC District 3 has been working towards a community wide approach for some time. @CEC3NYC End of term report is a good doc to see how holistic leaders in D3 have looked at equity and justice for public schools. https://t.co/jRmsJyTxnF
Can we look at school district's as communities? Communities support each other. @NYCSchools sorts/clusters according to socio-economic advantages. Then folks deflect when some schools have more $ than others. Might @CEC3NYC play a role in advancing a fairer system? Can u do it?
The challenge with the integrity of this issue is that Oates, Carranza/BDB, NYC council members & NYS legislators is that we keep pitting schools against schools w/o looking at why our education tax dollars aren’t being spent on teaching our students.
Wow!! Just...wow! But at least other people in the crowd recognized how egregious and racist the comment was. That being said...WOW!!
