This weekend I’ve seen many talking about divorce.

Divorce is the death of a family.

When you are the child and your parents get divorced, you no longer have a family, only family members.

My parents got divorced during my 30’s, as I was having my kids.

There is never a good time for your family to break apart. Having my kids amidst a family divorce was brutal.

Moments that should have been shared, multigenerational celebrations, were filled with stress and pain.

The day my daughter was born, as I vomited for 12 hours after my c-section, I also had the stress of who and when could visit the hospital, coordinating times so opposing parties didn’t accidentally cross paths in the hallway.

My daughter has never been in the same room with both my parents. She probably never will.

Struggling through young motherhood with my support system gone, left me with horrible anxiety. I was terrified by the thought that I could die and and not be there to help my daughter when she became a mother.

Of course, there are times and situations when divorce is necessary.

But it’s no secret our culture has embraced and normalized it. Reduced it to billboards you pass on a highway.

May we hold marriage and the blessing of family in high regard, even when it’s hard.

For the sake of ourselves and future generations.
