Basically, council asked for transit signal priority. Staff said "lol its not safe and we don't want to disrupt north/southbound traffic" (even though it is implemented safely all over the world), and the council went, "sounds good we won't turn it on."
When all is said and done, *this* will be the biggest boondoggle of the Eglinton Crosstown. When the 14 years of construction and budget overruns are long forgotten, people will be asking why we built it in the first place if the line is not given traffic priority.
Honestly, I don’t understand why street parking isn’t banned on all streetcar lines. It’s one of the most inexplicable changes that no one talks about for such an obvious cause of traffic in our downtown.
In summary, Ford's bike lane removals will, according to a new City Hall report:
- Cost $75 million in direct costs and sunk costs.
- Make traffic much, much worse for at least nine months during construction to remove lanes
- Have minimal long-term impact on car travel times.
Bloor b/w Ave & Spadina) is looking 🔥.
Reconstruction projects are amazing. They realize accessibility, beautification, & operational benefits.
To achieve these outcomes, the road, cycle tracks & sidewalks were rebuilt and catch basins, poles, etc were relocated. #biketo
Tonight is even worse than yesterday on the 504 King @TTChelps@MayorOliviaChow and I’d never seen anything like that. Our operator is literally telling people to walk. Got on at John 33 minutes ago. I’m currently at Roy Thomson Hall which is maybe 30 m east of where I started.
Despite 90% of respondents, and 55% of local respondents being in favour of Kensington Market pedestrianization, the city has inexplicably REMOVED pedestrianization from proposed redesign after 3 years of consultation: https://t.co/URmDYS9U6U
More bullshit from City staff. Endless consultation on the pedestrianization of small (but great) parts of Kensington Market. God forbid we do nice things in this city.
This motion by @PaulaFletcherTO@BravoDavenport is absolutely useless in helping small biz today. Nothing short of instant approval for any #cafeto from last year and refund of fees this year is acceptable. @BradMBradford make it happen. #TOpoli
For three years @BarVolo has taken part in CafeTO. But today, City staff said no for this year in mid-June!
Small businesses and our community deserve better. City government is ruining a great thing here.
As Mayor, I’ll fix CafeTO so it succeeds once again.
After months of waiting we learned today @cityoftoronto has denied our #CafeTO patio at Bar Volo this year. We are disappointed by the news after having a patio for 3 years w. no issues. There needs to be more support for small businesses creating culture & community in our city!
