Black people and a New Southern Strategy are the way forward. Democrats keep chasing the dream that they can convince the majority of white America to consider all Americans—but consistently, the majority shows you where they stand.

Considering that, we as Black people and those who truly focus on a society for all should push for a base-focused approach. Just look at two races from last night. Instead of spending $166 million in Texas and $50 million in Ohio on losses, investing $90 million each in states like Louisiana (33% Black) and Mississippi (37% Black) could mean victory. The proof is in Georgia’s win. Louisiana had a Democrat as governor for 8 years, but Democrats invested almost nothing in the state over the last decade.

If we want real change, we need to invest where our voices matter most.

I have a lot of feelings. I’ll unpack those another day, I might say too much right now. I just want those who are actually asking what next to understand, we have power to do something. Senate races in multiple southern states are in 2 years. Move the conversation toward our power not just the problem.
