@nathanjpackard @andynewmanlac You’ve supported his point by bringing up fentanyl. We use fentanyl for pain control in the hospital. It works superbly for patients in the ICU, since it has a higher potency than other opioids. Indeed, it’s not fentanyl itself, but the relationship with it.

@Bemorte @abaukdiscussion I don’t see it that way. The breadth of ABA (stimulus control, positive reinforcement, task analysis, taking DTT data) is such that as a package it provides greater potency and effectiveness. OT, PT, & Speech attest to its validity by continually adopting ABA practices.

@Bemorte @abaukdiscussion Thankfully, ABA has softened over the years. I view it like the medical field; evidence based with continuous improvement. The principles of ABA are solid; environmental shaping and positive reinforcement to increase autonomy for these kids.

@abaukdiscussion @Bemorte I could find 350K people that say Trump is holy and the best thing for the U.S. Anyone can throw BS on the internet. For this reason peer review is weighted heavier than testimonials and opinion pieces. It’s not perfect but at least has internal checks.

@abaukdiscussion @Bemorte Well, EI ABA has been shown to improve cognitive, language, and social skills in prospective cohort studies and even some RCTs. It has increased autonomy/happiness in my kids. We decided early to go where the evidence leads and that has proven fruitful.

@planetJoseph Exactly. The only ones that can make doctrinal, structural, and financial changes in the church are the Q15. They are “the church.” Their contradictions with the teachings of Jesus (e.g. honesty, prioritizing “the least of these,” etc) drove my decision to exit.

@NathanKDay @hawkgrrrl I had gay friends and extended family, but It didn’t hit me until it affected my kids. Then the rose colored glasses came off quickly. I saw clearly that the church did not lead from the margins, as a Christ centered church would.

@KevennTSmith @hawkgrrrl As a parent of a gay kid this makes me sad. The harm the church inflicts on LGBTQ youth became obvious when she came out. I will be forever grateful she opened my eyes. You are enough for them to leave and it’s hard for me not to see their choice as selfishness.

@SallyGirl I also believed in a church that prioritized the needs of the marginalized, as pure religion should. With the church being secretive and the doctrine now ambiguous, beliefs are a reflection of the individual (deznat asshole to gentle giver). You were one of the good ones.

@thebookofevan Same! Then felt mostly guilty for the hobby after the mission and kept my distance; after all, drums aren’t allowed in sacrament meeting and “don’t invite the spirit.” Now play DWs in a funk/soul/fusion group. Drums are life.

There are a number of good reasons your parents wouldn’t give chocolate, but If you had childhood cancer your parents would do everything in their power to get rid of it because they love you and don’t want you to suffer. Why would an omnibenevolent god do less?

@deconst_therapy Don’t pay tithing! The church doesn’t need it. It will sit in an investment hoard while you struggle to make ends meet. Give to a worthy charity, invest in your retirement, and support your family with that money.

@FailedLDSWoman I wonder if it is bc society has progressed to the point that GenZ clearly sees that church leaders made major errors in teachings on race and LGBT; therefore, they don’t take the current teachings/directives as seriously as I did as a genXer. I’m envious.
