Locking up labor leaders for defending workers' rights, civil rights, and immigrant rights is a sign of growing authoritarianism. Resist and fight back!
Today, in the aftermath of the horrific attack in DC last night, many who are seeking to discredit the progressive movement in Chicago have purposely shared misinformation attempting to connect the shooter to local progressive movement spaces and elected leaders. Even though these claims have been debunked, many of these posts remain up and continue to be shared widely.
These individuals have intentionally politicized a tragedy without bothering to fact check the incendiary claims they were propagating. This is wrong, incredibly dangerous, and unacceptable behavior. Even when we disagree, we all have a responsibility to engage in civil discourse with each other with humility, care, and most importantly, the truth.
I take this responsibility seriously. It's disappointing that so many do not.
This is "misinformation," Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez tells me. She said this man is her former political director, Chris Poulos, not the shooter.
“This is exhausting & harmful. They can really put people in danger,” she said. “Our message has always been about peace.” (1/2)

Because Eileen O’Neill Burke has shown she can’t be trusted to stand up for our rights.
We are proud to endorse Graciela Guzmán for District 20! She is a proven advocate for working people, public education, and stronger communities.

“Chris and I spoke constantly, through situations, stresses and celebrations that helped shape me as a leader. There was no one easier to talk to -or argue with- and always be able to trust that she was 100% on your side. +
“Chris was a lifelong revolutionary. Her commitment to the CTU was only one part of her worldview…She worked tirelessly…fighting against racism and police violence, protesting U.S. wars, and advocating for justice for the Palestinian people” - Jesse Sharkey
“South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has compared Israel’s policies in Gaza and the occupied West Bank with his country’s past apartheid regime of racial segregation imposed by the white-minority rule that ended in 1994.” https://t.co/gLpLEDm237
🧵Martinez has put her patronage machine to work not only herself, but on the campaigns of her hand-picked Senate appointee Natalie Toro. Until a week ago, Toro’s campaign committee was chaired by a Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court making a six-figure salary working for Martinez
Horrified to see C*nary M*ssion described in @capitolfax as "a group that has been exposing hatred of Jews and Israelis." There's been extensive reporting of CM as a hate group set on harming pro-Palestine activists. As a journalist, Rich should've done the work to find that out.
