Im confused, if paying taxes cant guarantee you access clean water, clean food, and clean shelter. Or access to healthcareWhat the fuck are we paying for exactly? Something has to be done collectively.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
What's really annoying is EVERY headlines saying "Zohran Mamdani to Attend 9/11 Memorial Despite Criticism". Criticism?! What criticism?!
"We don't want the Muslim guy there" isn't fucking criticism.
Mainstream media is so cooked. The headlines should say he's going despite islamophobic protests.
i fear that donation-based mutual aid is stagnating because those most likely to give are all running out of money. we desperately need different solutions
Genuinely beautiful age. No one is having sex, everyone speaks like an incel, no one has their own opinions and aesthetic taste. Everyone is a cruel cunt afraid of vaccines, hormones, bdsm and SSRIs.
you wanna talk about fighting fascism but no one wants to cook, clean, learn first aid, do repairs, practice community defense and discipline, study... you'll die alone of starvation and disease before you ever fight a fascist.
a lot of the gender slop on this app would stop if men could simply accept that women are human beings just like they are. whatever women do, good or bad, they do because they're human, just like men,not because they're women. this debate is so tiresome and repetitive.
just got off the phone with my university friend.
His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in March.
He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having.
5 months later:
Savings wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren't their problem.
He told me he's not the same person anymore.
Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn't go away.
They did everything right.
Two incomes. No debt. Responsible their whole lives.
One diagnosis all of it in 7 months.
And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting $35 million bonus this quarter.
I don't know how people defend this system with a straight face.
i really don't.
Since you weren’t even born yet, I’m going to answer in good faith:
9/11 was America’s collective loss of innocence. In the decades prior, we’d won the Cold War by outspending the Soviets. We were the sole remaining superpower, and we were in a period of peace and economic prosperity.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, we suffered a suicide attack with a higher death toll than Pearl Harbor. It struck a city on the US mainland, the first attack of that scale to hit CONUS since the Civil War.
In a violent flash, and on live television, our collective illusions of safety, security, and peace disappeared. For most Americans, it was the first time we ever had to contend with that scale of horror, and what it implied about the fragility of our way of life.
It was simultaneously sobering and terrifying. The American response was to launch two wars, and to restructure domestic life around the Government’s presumed duty to spy on everyone, so nothing like it could ever happen again.
I am not being hyperbolic when I say the America we grew up in—imagined or not—vanished on 9/11.
What you’re calling a “worshipful attitude” is a mix of reverence for the dead, and mourning for the loss of what existed before.
The infant doesn't believe we watched people die live on air during our 2nd period class on the CRT TV's either hanging in the corner of each of our rooms or wheeled into class on carts because they spent the last ten years being forced by credit card companies to say "unalive".
A woman on r/pregnant is concerned because her OBGYN got on erection during her cervical check and a good 75% of the comments are telling her it’s not a big deal and was probably involuntary, and the mod stickied a comment telling us not to be ‘sexist’ towards male doctors.
supported diddy in court, replicated the jacket diddy wore beating cassie and sold it as merch, put north west on a song with diddy, his “school” was literally shut down for being unethical, praised tyga for “getting it in early” with kylie. and those are off the top of my head.
