In 1991, an unassuming thrift sale became the setting for an incredible historical discovery. Little did a man know that his decision to purchase an "ugly painting" for a mere $4, primarily attracted by the frame, would unravel a hidden piece of history that would captivate the nation.

The man, whose name remains a mystery, had no idea about the treasure concealed behind that unremarkable artwork. As he removed the painting from its frame, a folded piece of parchment revealed itself. When the gavel came down at the auction, the hammer price was a staggering $7 million.

Just three days before D-Day, a 21-year-old Irish woman by the name of Maureen Flavin diligently recorded her routine barometer reading and promptly dispatched it to Dublin.

Little did she know that this solitary data point would be relayed directly to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, leading to a pivotal decision that averted disaster. Eisenhower wisely chose to delay D-Day in response to the incoming storm signaled by Maureen Flavin's weather observation.
