Delighted to co-host Professor Dame Fiona Rayment, one of the UK's foremost nuclear safety experts, for a reception together with @WiN_IAEA. Her message was clear: women have a place in nuclear, and the sector is safer, stronger and more effective when it benefits from diversity.
Every year, millions of shipments of radioactive material move worldwide by road, rail, sea and air 🚛🚆🚢✈️. These materials are essential for medicine, industry, research, agriculture and energy production.
In the unlikely event of a maritime incident, rapid coordination between shipping and coastal States is critical.
On 9 April, @IAEAorg's Incident and Emergency Centre #IEC hosted 60 experts from 11 countries 🌍 and the World Nuclear Transport Institute in #Vienna 🇦🇹 for a tabletop exercise testing emergency coordination at sea. Conducted under the Informal Dialogue between Coastal and Shipping States, chaired by @UKMissionVienna 🇬🇧, the exercise leveraged the #IAEA’s infrastructure and emergency response tools and tested communication mechanisms between countries and the IAEA in the event of an emergency at sea.
💬 “Exercises like this strengthen international coordination, enhance information exchange, and help us respond as one network — ready when it truly matters,” said Amgad Shokr, Director of the IAEA’s IEC

My Statement on Ukraine🇺🇦 at the November 2025 @iaeaorg Board of Governors:
“Russia’s ability to transform aggression into victimhood is world class. Fortunately, this Board deals in fact, not fiction.”

The United Kingdom deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage this week. Congratulations!
The UK's addition strengthens the global nuclear liability regime and enhances nuclear power's capacity to support climate change mitigation, economic development and energy security. The CSC will enter into force for the UK on 1 January 2026, making 🇬🇧 the 12th Contracting Party to the Convention.

#OnThisDay day, 20 years ago, the adoption of the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material marked the start of a new era in international efforts to reduce the risk of nuclear security threats. Since then, 138 States have become Parties to #ACPPNM.
@iaeaorg continues its efforts for the universalization of this key legal instrument for #NuclearSecurity by offering legislative and technical assistance to address countries’ needs and forging new partnerships with stakeholders involved.

A much-needed and timely turning point for nuclear power that I strongly welcome: with President Ajay Banga, just signed an @IAEAorg/@WorldBank partnership that will allow nuclear energy to support development, reduce poverty, and help meet soaring global electricity demand.
Subject to final approvals & contract signature, @RollsRoyceUK has been selected as the preferred bidder to develop small modular reactors in the UK.
This marks a new age of nuclear - creating thousands of jobs, boosting energy security & helping protect families’ finances.
I visited the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant with Energoatom CEO @petro_kotin to see how its personnel do everything to protect the plant from Russian attacks. Russia's war against Ukraine is a threat to the whole world. It must stop now.
🌍 47 @iaeaorg Member States supported Ukraine’s nuclear safety, condemning 🇷🇺illegal occupation of 🇺🇦#ZNPP
They urged to cease military actions threatening ☢️safety, condemned 🇷🇺attacks on energy infrastructure, incl drone strike on ChNPP, and 🇷🇺obstructions of #IAEA rotations.
🇬🇧🇨🇦🇨🇭🇳🇴 ambassadors today met with women leaders of Serbian NGOs who have faced unjustified political and media attacks in recent weeks.
We remain proud to work with these dedicated professionals on strengthening Serbia’s democratic institutions, rule of law and media freedom.
I’m at Kyivska electrical substation—an important part of Ukraine’s power grid essential for nuclear safety.
A nuclear accident can result from a direct attack on a plant, but also from power supply disruption. @IAEAorg is here to assess impact, support, & help prevent that risk.
It's Day 3! 🎄
We're asking you to help spread awareness of sarcoidosis by sharing this post. We believe that increasing awareness is crucial for better understanding and support for those affected by sarcoidosis.
