Trump has ruined the last decade of our lives and I long for the psychic release of his eventual exit from this plane, but, goddamnit, “he’s making everyone around him wear shoes that don’t fit” is such an inspired character detail. Like I’m mad at how fucking good a bit that is.
Well, when a child is conceived, the DNA split is 50/50 from both parents. Except for one small detail: mitochondrial DNA. It’s passed down only through the mother and never through sperm.
Which means something interesting: all living humans can trace their mitochondrial line back to one woman, not one man.
And every daughter born continues passing that same line forward.
Happy Women’s Day 💐
there's one major difference between the children targeted by catholic priests and the children targeted by Epstein that I fear explains the disproportionate response 😕
I’ve lived in SF for 30 years and my car has never once been broken into. I have never been assaulted by anyone on the street. Only had one break in ever and it was the fault of a contractor and they barely got in the front door before running away because people were inside. There is lots of poop, I simply try not to step in it. I’ve stepped in poop maybe 6 times in 30 years. Had a knife pulled on me once at 3am and talked the guy down. Never had my bike stolen (when I had one). Been locked out of my house and slept on the sidewalk and had absolutely nothing happen to me.
For those who move here and complain and clutch their pearls, a lot of your problems are caused by how you carry yourself combined with your inexperience of big cities and being forced to step outside of your shield of privilege. SF is no more dangerous or dirty than LA or NYC and I have spent lots of time in both so you can argue with someone else, the only difference is here because of the geography you are constantly confronted with the inequality and wealth disparity and so you are rattled by it every day.
I really enjoy this new genre of tweet where someone who is like the mayor of Klansville in Fent County goes "if any of you New Yorkers think you can just move into the haunted old asbestos factory, know that we practice ritual incest and don't have matcha or pronouns here 😂"
4 days out from my life-changing surgery, @Aetna has denied the appeal for my brain surgery.
to be clear, when i signed up to aetna months ago, the coordinator had confirmed they would cover this surgery. then, a week ago, they said the surgery was too experimental/elective and denied coverage. we appealed. that appeal was just denied today.
now, my neurosurgeon is trying to do a peer-to-peer consult with someone at aetna to explain why i need it so we don’t lose the surgery date on monday morning. aetna is not being responsive.
this is sadistic and a violation of basic trust. please spread this so they can’t ignore it. they may not care if i live or die but people should know just what kind of company they’re dealing with. and please pray they are able to have a peer-to-peer consult with my neurosurgeon and have a change of heart.
The proliferation of cheap, shelf stable protein is unironically a matter of national security. We cannot be governed by the 90IQ'd who see $4 million for bean research and chimp out because they've never had more than a 30 second thought. The GOPs "elite human capital problem" is real, sorry.
