@clhubes@JaBogen Opposite problem recently: my toddler treats my hair as a personal affront and starts pushing it out of the way if I have the audacity to let it down from a bun.
@br1gid I’ve had look luck with peroxide for fungus gnats but definitely address any watering/drainage issues too. Scales and honeydew are the worst…my zz needed a year plus of regular alcohol and neem oil wipe downs to pick off scales.
BREAKING: The House has passed the #KeepKidsFed Act by a vote of 376-42.
This is good news, but it's not over yet. The bill now goes to the Senate and it's important that they pass it so kids can get the meals they need!
👇 required reading for anyone in food policy, especially non-parents. Parents like me are already well aware! (Although I’m newly disgusted by the similac I fed my son for months…)
🧵Thread on the infant formula shortage situation, which feels like a slow-moving train wreck.
First, retail stock has been rocky for months. It was already bad over the holidays, then a big recall + plant shutdown in Feb. made it worse.
Great viz here @erindataviz/@datasembly:
Today, Congress failed our kids by not clearing the path for USDA to extend critical #ChildNutrition waivers.
But this isn't over. We urge Congress to include USDA waiver authority in the omnibus bill before its final passage. Our full statement: https://t.co/Mxlxvj6cDb
73% of schools have staff shortages.
Congress: Don't make it harder for them to feed kids this summer and next school year. Include #ChildNutrition waivers in the #omnibus TODAY.
Call Congress now with our tool: https://t.co/1GG1ozD3JG
It’s a frustrating misconception because that’s not at all what #childnutrition waivers have been about this past year - the waivers help schools stay open and safely feed kids despite supply chain & labor challenges.
“Parents and Republicans are for reopening our schools. Many of these waivers were designed to encourage schools to close and go virtual. This is not a message we should be sending to schools at this point, when almost everyone agrees we should be returning to normal.”
The health of our kids is non-partisan! Congress needs 2 extend the statutory authority 4 USDA to issue waivers 4 child nutrition programs like summer & school meals. w/o an extension of this authority, USDA can’t provide child nutrition COVID related waivers past June 30, 2022
@capitalweather I worked by Union Station and thought there was a train wreck, so I went to the window to look. A coworker yelled “I’m from California, get away from the window!!!” She didn’t need to say earthquake for me to know what was happening, but I was still clueless on what to do!
#AfterschoolMeals just turned ten! Check out the new @nokidhungry report detailing the dramatic growth and opportunities to improve access to this underutilized program.
NEW: In a report released on the ten-year anniversary of the #AfterschoolMeals law, we take a look at the success of the program and call for critical improvements that would help feed even more kids after school. Learn more: https://t.co/1VCEMhah3O
Whether kids are learning at a school desk or their kitchen table, they need food to fuel them. Because of #COVID19, many children are facing the school year without the nutrition they need to learn & thrive. It doesn’t have to be this way. Take action: https://t.co/1dbD2v0H4M
Have we set a record for rainbows 🌈 so far this year in DC? Or do I just notice them more now that I’m not in an interior cubicle all day? @capitalweather
We need to get something done to help families who are afraid of losing their homes.
We need to get something done that keeps kids from going hungry.
But Senate Republicans REALLY, SERIOUSLY want to make sure that there’s a tax deduction for three martini business lunches.
@kristenmeinzer Thank you for this! I met a woman at a party who had gone to a private Northeast college, and when I mentioned that I had gone to a state school, she said “I’m sorry.” To my face. Knowing nothing about my life. I was too floored to say this in response.
